Job Summary

Facilities Controls & Automation Engineer

Location: Austin, TX

Flex is seeking a Facilities Controls & Automation Lead to own the design, configuration, and maintenance of building automation systems across our facilities. This role is critical to keeping mission-critical infrastructure - HVAC, power distribution, and process systems - running reliably and efficiently.

What a typical day looks like: Design, configure, and maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS) across facility infrastructureConfigure and support BACnet/Modbus networks integrating chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, AHUs, cooling towers, CRAHs, compressed air systems, and power distribution equipmentProgram and maintain VFDs for mechanical and electrical systemsLead facility controls projects from design through commissioning, including sequence-of-operations developmentLead the controls team on project execution, including scheduling, scope tracking, and coordination across stakeholdersOrder and manage procurement of parts, materials, and equipment needed for controls projects and maintenance workIdentify problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions on control system and equipment issuesCollaborate with facilities, engineering, and operations teams to optimize system performance and energy efficiencyDiagnose and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime on critical infrastructureMaintain documentation for control system architecture, points lists, and standard operating proceduresSupport vendor coordination and contractor oversight for controls-related work The experience we're looking to add to our team Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)7+ years of experience in building automation systems and/or facilities controlsHands-on experience with chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, AHUs, HVAC systems, and cooling towersWorking knowledge of BACnet and Modbus protocolsExperience with EcoStruxure Building Operation or comparable BAS platformsFamiliarity with critical facility systems: chilled water, CRAH units, compressed air, power distributionStrong troubleshooting skills for mixed OT/IT control environmentsAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawingsProject management experience, including leading a team through project execution and coordinating parts/materials procurementDemonstrated experience with root cause analysis and implementing corrective actionsExperience in a data center, manufacturing, or mission-critical facility environmentVFD configuration and tuning experienceJS21
