Job summary Family Nurse: Fixed term - 15 months (37.5 hours)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Stockport Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) as part of a pilot expansion of our established service. We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated Family Nurse who is passionate about building strong therapeutic relationships and supporting young families to achieve positive, lasting change. This is an opportunity to join a skilled and supportive team, contribute to the continued development of FNP in Stockport and be part of an exciting period of service growth. The post is funded until March 2028, with full-time or part-time working options considered.

Main duties of the job

As a Family Nurse, you will deliver the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) programme to eligible pregnant young women and their families, providing intensive, structured and therapeutic support in the home and community. You will build trusting, respectful relationships with families, working alongside them to develop their confidence, skills and aspirations and to achieve positive outcomes for themselves and their children.

Using evidence-based FNP approaches, you will support families throughout pregnancy and the early years to promote positive pregnancy, parenting, child health and development, and longer-term life-course outcomes. You will work collaboratively with families and partner agencies, coordinating support where needed and helping families to access the right universal and specialist services.

You will be supported through reflective supervision, ongoing professional development and a strong focus on FNP programme fidelity, enabling you to develop your clinical and therapeutic skills while making a meaningful difference to families. You will play a key role in supporting families to progress towards their goals and successfully graduate from the programme when their child reaches two years of age.

Education & Qualifications Essential

Nursing or midwifery qualifications and registered with the NMC Degree level or equivalent professional qualification Willingness to undertake specialist post graduate training and be assessed on competence in clinical field following training.

Understand the difference between advice giving and motivational approaches. Has some knowledge of the research base of FNP. Knowledge and understanding of parent/infant mental health and its impact on parenting and child development Willingness to undertake personal study to develop understanding of a range of clinical areas Knowledge and understanding of national and local safeguarding policies and procedures. Significant experience of working with families in communities experiencing social and economic disadvantage.
