About this role
As a Senior Facilities Engineer, you will join our Hertfordshire team to support our activities within the pharmaceutical manufacturing and research sector.
You will play a key role in ensuring the reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of site-wide building services, utilities, and critical infrastructure across a complex pharmaceutical manufacturing, research, and commercial facility. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and supporting day-to-day operations, you will lead engineering activities, supervise contractors and engineers, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Support the supervision and coordination of engineering teams and specialist contractors delivering planned, reactive, and corrective maintenance activitiesAct as a primary technical contact for HVAC systems and business-critical building infrastructureConduct equipment inspections and audits, identifying improvement opportunities and implementing corrective actionsReview BMS and HVAC control systems to optimise plant performance and identify energy-saving opportunitiesMonitor equipment reliability and maintenance performance to ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and regulatory requirementsAct as an Approved Person (Electrical HV/LV and/or Mechanical Pressure Systems) where authorisedSupport fault-finding, root cause investigations, and issue resolution activitiesManage and supervise small works and engineering projects across the facilityCoordinate maintenance shutdowns, equipment upgrades, and installation activities with key business stakeholdersReview and approve maintenance procedures, work permits, and engineering documentationSupport the development and delivery of training for engineering personnelManage contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with site policies, safety standards, and GMP requirementsPrepare reports and presentations detailing equipment performance, maintenance activities, incidents, and resource utilisationEnsure all engineering records and documentation comply with statutory, Health & Safety, and GxP requirementsSupport continuous improvement initiatives across engineering operationsAssess and recommend critical spare parts requirements to support asset reliabilityParticipate in the site on-call rota (approximately 1 week in 6) Required Skills:
Proven experience leading or supervising engineering teams in a maintenance environmentStrong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services and utilitiesExperience working with HVAC systems and critical infrastructureAbility to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentationExperience updating and reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of workKnowledge of contractor management and maintenance governance processesExperience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skillsExcellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management abilitiesFlexible approach with the ability to support occasional out-of-hours activitiesRequired Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.Experience within a pharmaceutical, GMP-regulated, life sciences, healthcare, or similarly regulated environmentPrevious experience in a supervisory or leadership positionDesirable Skills:
Approved Person authorisation (Electrical HV/LV and/or Mechanical Pressure Systems)Experience working within pharmaceutical manufacturing or research facilitiesKnowledge of GxP, GMP, and regulatory compliance requirementsExperience managing engineering projects and facility upgradesUnderstanding of energy management and sustainability initiativesExperience developing engineering maintenance strategies and asset reliability programme Why join us?
