About this role
Our client is a UK-based B2B software company specialising in technology for the energy and commodity markets.
They are looking for a hands-on Principal Software Engineer to join a small engineering team building complex software for the European energy and trading market.
This is a technical leadership role first, with people management alongside it. You’ll continue writing and reviewing production code every week while also leading and developing a small team of engineers.
Requirements
You’ll take ownership of the technical direction of a core product area, working from well-defined requirements through design, development and delivery.
Key responsibilities include:Write, review and ship production code regularly using C#/.NET and AzureLead technical design and make architecture decisions, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainabilityDesign, develop, refactor, debug, test and support high-quality softwareLine-manage and mentor a small team of engineersLead code and design reviews and constructively challenge technical decisionsOwn automated unit testing and promote strong engineering practicesIdentify root causes of complex technical issues and implement long-term solutionsContribute to planning, estimation and requirements refinementWhat We’re Looking For10+ years of commercial software engineering experienceStrong, recent and hands-on C#/.NET experience, including .NET Core/Web APIExperience with Azure and cloud-based software developmentStrong system design and software architecture skillsExperience with SQL and NoSQL databasesDocker, containerisation and orchestration experienceStrong understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns and integration patternsExperience with automated testing and code reviewsProven people management / line management experience while remaining hands-on technicallyFluent English and strong communication skillsA stable career history and experience working in complex productsNice to HaveExperience in fintech, payments, trading, energy or another complex/regulated domainExperience in a smaller product-focused companyInfrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, Bicep or ARMGitHub Actions, SonarCloud or CodeQLExperience with multi-tenant SaaS productsTypeScript, Angular, JavaScript or PythonBenefits
