About this role
Assist the activities of Field Services personnel to assure that construction, operating, maintenance and repair procedures are adhered to; coordinate with other departments on work progress, schedules and material availability. Review field data and problems with operating personnel and recommend changes in procedures and/or policies to improve system operations and/or reduce costs. Consult and coordinate with contractors, property owners and representatives of other companies as required. Expected to align personal goals with the Mission, Vision, and Values of OVEC/IKEC. Assist in maintenance and repair work of transmission lines, transmission and station structures and station equipment. Be familiar with special equipment and maintenance practices in EHV substations. Assist in coordinating contract labor to support maintenance activities. Inspect and supervise the construction of new facilities in Company-owned substations and in other such stations as the Company may operate. Assist contractors with interpretations of specifications and prints, location of materials and explanations of Company policies. Consult with operating, maintenance and engineering personnel of this and other companies including manufacturers' representatives to incorporate design improvements where applicable to obtain better operation or reduce costs. Schedule and assist special testing and be familiar with special equipment and maintenance practices necessary to assure maximum capabilities and continuity of service on switchyard equipment. Assist in the planning and coordination of the testing of transmission line and substation equipment. Assist in the preparation of estimates for right-of-way maintenance and assist in the administration of maintenance contracts. Inspect and consult with contractors as needed during the progress of the work. Supervise the brush and weed control activities at substations and microwave sites. Be familiar with the various materials and methods used for this work and prepare estimates of materials required each year. Assist in the planning of investigations of equipment failures and coordinate work required by the investigations. Meet with parties concerned to investigate right-of-way problems; such as encroachments, unsafe practices and strip mining activities by coal mine operators, crossing conflicts with other utilities, proposed highway changes, etc. and to recommend action required. Coordinate with personnel of other departments on work schedules and progress, as well as to assure the availability of necessary spare parts for equipment maintenance. Maintain records of all special tests and design changes; record changes on prints and records. Keep informed of the latest practices and procedures with regard to substation and switchyard design and maintenance and consistently apply these to ensure efficiency and economy in the operation of the department. Determine equipment and spare parts to be kept in stock and maintain an adequate supply. Investigate causes of complaint and assist when necessary. Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures; when supervising others, assure that safe work practices are followed and conduct safety meetings; make suggestions for the improvement of the safety program and encourage others to do so.
