About this role
About the role
Eater is looking for a hands-on marketing leader to own growth and engagement strategy across our tentpole programming, our forthcoming membership program, live events, and the Eater app. This is a builder’s role: You’ll set strategy and then execute it yourself, writing briefs, building campaigns, pulling reports. You’ll collaborate with teams across Eater, working closely with editorial, product, experiential, and sales to make sure we have a smart and sharp marketing approach to every way Eater reaches its audiences, from a national dinner series to a push notification.
What you’ll do
Own go-to-market strategy and execution for Eater’s tentpole franchises and experiential events, from pre-event promotion through post-event recap and re-engagement. Help build and launch Eater’s new membership program — defining the marketing strategy, onboarding and retention flows, and perks/benefits messaging in partnership with editorial and product. Lead app marketing across the full funnel: lifecycle and CRM campaigns (email, push, in-app), paid user acquisition, App Store presence, and win-back strategies for lapsed users. Manage day-to-day paid media planning and optimization across channels (e.g., Apple Search Ads, paid social). Manage ROI and overall budget for paid marketing Translate app and campaign performance data into clear recommendations for leadership — retention, engagement, funnel conversion, and download attribution. Partner with the sales team on marketing deliverables for advertising and sponsorship relationships (decks, campaign recaps, co-branded activations). Collaborate with editorial on app feature launches, content expansion and franchise moments to ensure marketing amplifies and supports the editorial calendar. Bring rigor to measurement — defining KPIs, building reporting cadences, and running tests to improve conversion at every stage.
What you’ll bring
5+ years of marketing experience with meaningful exposure to lifecycle/CRM marketing, brand marketing, paid media, and membership or loyalty programs — you don’t need deep expertise in all of them, but you’ve worked hands-on in most. Familiarity with media and publishing businesses — you understand editorial voice, audience development, and how marketing supports a brand’s content. Comfort as an individual contributor: you’re equally happy writing a campaign brief, building an email flow, pulling a BigQuery report, or being on-site running an activation. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills — you can work fluently with editorial, product, experiential, and sales stakeholders and manage many concurrent priorities. Data fluency: comfort with app and lifecycle marketing metrics (retention, MAU, funnel conversion, CPI/CAC) and the tools behind them. Excellent written communication — tight, confident copy and the ability to translate strategy into clear briefs and recommendations. A builder’s mindset: comfortable in ambiguity, energized by 0-to-1 work like standing up a new membership program. Must have brand marketing fluency, with the ability to market IP across different audience surfaces including events. Comfortable with membership/loyalty programs, and executing CRM/lifestyle marketing PAY TRANSPARENCY
