About this role
WHAT THIS ROLE IS ABOUT The primary purpose of the General Engineer is to plan, design, and technically evaluate engineering solutions across multiple disciplines — including process, mechanical, civil, and instrumentation engineering — to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of chemical production facilities within the organization's global Verbund network. This is achieved by applying established engineering standards and methodologies, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering technically sound documentation and recommendations that support plant construction, modification, and continuous improvement initiatives. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT Designs and evaluates engineering solutions for chemical plant equipment, piping systems, and process units, ensuring compliance with applicable technical standards such as ASME, DIN, and EN norms. Develops and reviews engineering documentation including technical specifications, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and design calculations to support plant construction, modification, and commissioning activities. Conducts feasibility assessments and cost estimations for engineering projects, providing recommendations on technology selection and process improvements to enhance plant performance and resource efficiency. Coordinates engineering activities across multidisciplinary project teams and interfaces with production, safety, procurement, and external contractors to deliver engineering outputs on schedule and within budget. WHAT EXPERTISE YOU BRING Holds a degree in chemical, mechanical, process, civil, or electrical engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. Brings hands-on experience in plant engineering, process design, or technical project execution within the chemical, petrochemical, or process industries. Demonstrates proficiency in engineering design tools and software such as AutoCAD, COMOS, or equivalent CAE/CAD platforms used in process plant environments. Communicates effectively in English; proficiency in German is advantageous given the organization's primary Verbund sites and cross-functional collaboration requirements. Works effectively in international, cross-functional project teams and is experienced in coordinating with external engineering contractors, equipment vendors, and regulatory authorities.
