Primary Purpose The Payroll team is seeking a motivated, analytical, and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Payroll Business Analyst. This role supports a wide range of payroll-related functions, including reporting, data analysis, account reconciliations, process management, and other payroll processing activities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to accuracy, and a passion for continuous process improvement. Principal Duties Coordinates the design and manages the implementation of new systems or business processes. Serves as a liaison between Accounting, Information Technology, and other client departments. Reviews day-to-day payroll records, general ledger account reporting, analysis, and reconciliation. Generates reporting and provides analysis for other departments and external entities. Responds to ad hoc inquiries and data requests as well as internal and external audit requests. Supports payroll security processes by reviewing, coordinating, and maintaining access controls and user permissions. Provides support for routine duties and facilitates supplemental payroll processing. Qualifications & Skills Education/Experience: Preferred Level: Bachelor’s Degree Preferred Degrees: Accounting, Finance, Business, or similar Experience Minimum Level: 1-2 years Preferred Level: 3-5 years Technical Skills: MS Excel (intermediate or advanced skill level) Experience with data query tools (e.g. Oracle, BW) MS Office Suite Mainframe/HCM/SF SAP/S4 Soft Skills: Thinks analytically with a problem-solving mindset Able to make decisions independently An eye for accuracy, with a focus on details Effectively plans and organizes multiple concurrent tasks Communicates effectively Work Conditions Environment: Hybrid (Office – Three Days; Remote- Two days) Job Family: Individual Contributor Shift Work: No On-Call: No Weekend Work: Required during exigent circumstances or if necessary to meet compliance or regulatory requirements Travel Required: No required travel Company Overview Since 1827, Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) and its predecessor companies have safely moved the goods and materials that drive the U.S. economy.
