Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. Scope of Role Measurements Systems engineer is a technically diverse and challenging role that supports optical fiber manufacturing. The primary mission is to apply technical knowledge to advance manufacturing capabilities. Project assignments require a broad application of engineering skills with a specific focus on optical measurements. Primary objectives include process improvement, cost reduction, process and raw material optimization, engineered safety improvements, and ensuring manufacturing readiness for new processes. Comprehensive process understanding is an expectation and requirement for success. Key Responsibilities Apply advanced measurement engineering concepts -- including non-contact and optical methods -- to drive capability advancements in glass manufacturing processes Lead cost reduction and process improvement projects with division-wide impact Partner with technology and plant manufacturing teams to ensure smooth deployment of new technologies, products, and processes; identify and lead implementation of required measurement capabilities Collaborate with global manufacturing sites to coordinate and resolve glassmaking-related technical issues with a focus on measurements Support and improve existing optical measurement systems Additional Information Location : Wilmington, NC Travel : 5-10% travel, primarily within North Carolina; occasional international travel may be required Work Schedule : 40+ hours/week, typically M-F but may require weekends depending on travel schedules or job assignment. Experiences/Education - Required B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Physics, Optics or a related technology degree. 3+ years of engineering experience with a focus on measurement concepts. Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency in tools such as Access, Excel, Minitab, JMP, Databricks, or equivalent Experience collaborating across varied organizational levels and functions including manufacturing, technology, R&D, operations, procurement, IT, and supply chain Experiences/Education - Desired Prior experience transitioning a new product or process from development into manufacturing Software development skills, with preference for .NET or Python This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $95,144.00 - $130,823.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
