POSITION SUMMARY: The Embedded Firmware Engineer II (C++) is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting embedded software controls for DC power supply systems used in plasma power applications. Working as part of a cross-functional New Product Development (NPD) team, this role collaborates with Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware, and FPGA Engineers to develop firmware solutions for new and existing products. This position contributes throughout the product development lifecycle, applying embedded software expertise to support product performance, functionality, and reliability in advanced power electronics applications. RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in all phases of the firmware development lifecycle as a member of a cross-functional product development team, working closely with system, electrical, and FPGA engineers. Design and develop embedded software for custom hardware and multicore processor architectures. Develop software unit test procedures and maintain code and architecture documentation. Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and technical presentations for internal and external stakeholders as needed. Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to the development of embedded software solutions. Develop estimates for assigned tasks and support project planning and scheduling using Agile or similar methodologies. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Location: Fort Collins, CO (on-site M-F) Environment: Combination of office, laboratory, and cleanroom environments supporting advanced power systems development Travel domestically and internationally for short durations as needed. QUALIFICATIONS : Experience in semiconductor capital equipment, plasma systems, industrial power, or high-voltage applications preferred. Proven troubleshooting skills and experience using test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and JTAG debuggers. Experience with source code repositories such as Git and collaboration tools including Jira and Confluence. Knowledge of embedded communication interfaces and peripherals including SPI, I²C, USB, UART, CAN, Ethernet, timers, and interrupt controllers. Experience with RTOS-based embedded processors and multicore environments. Experience with build tools such as GNU, CMake, and Ninja. Experience with Python scripting. Knowledge of digital hardware design and VHDL preferred. EXPERIENCE: 2+ years of experience in related industries working with real-time embedded firmware (C++) in industrial applications. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field (required) Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics or Control Systems (preferred) COMPENSATION: As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
