Summary The Cytometry and Cell Sorting Core at Baylor College of Medicine is looking for a highly motivated individual to be part of the High Parameter Cytometry Unit. The Flow Cytometry Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the high parameter, imaging, and spectral cytometers. This person will be responsible for the QA/QC of the instruments, troubleshooting, operations, interaction with service engineers and developing SOPs. Will be cross trained for use of all multiparametric analyzers and sorters. The Advanced Technology Cores is part of the Office of Research. It focuses on aiding researchers with advanced technologies and techniques to accommodate cutting edge research. The Cytometry and Cell Sorting Core facility brings cytometry applications and education to researchers. This position is located at Main BCM in the Texas Medical Center. Job Duties Utilizes cytometers for optimum data acquisition, analysis, and manipulation, validation, and quality control purposes. Provides instruction and guidance to laboratory personnel, researchers, and core users, including experiment set-up/design, scheduling, analysis and sorting of samples, and equipment questions and problems. Assists in daily operation of facility including monitoring equipment usage, reagent supply, and recording billing time. Assists in organizing educational events and curating and creating educational materials for laboratory personnel, researchers, and core users. Processes, analyzes, and troubleshoots specimen samples from bone marrow, blood, and various other tissues. Analyzes and prepares preliminary data. Acquires and constantly maintains current knowledge of scientific research as well as aids in executing new research procedures. Provides advanced troubleshooting of instruments and interacts with service engineers. Maintains inventory of all reagents and supplies used in the cytometry laboratory. Practices quality control procedures in order to ensure safety when working with possibly bio hazardous samples. Handles special projects/roles in the core. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemical, biological, physical science or related field. Three years of relevant experience. Department-specific Requirements Flow cytometry and/or imaging High parameter experience Panel Design Immunology/Immunophenotyping Data Analysis Sample Prep Independent operation of instrumentation Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a related field. Certified Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC). Imaging cytometry R programming Image analysis Biostatistics Work Authorization Requirement: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
