Position Summary The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician installs, calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs plant instrumentation, control systems, and associated electrical equipment supporting safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of the Deer Park power generation facility. The position supports normal operations, planned and forced outages, startups, shutdowns, testing, and commissioning. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Maintain and troubleshoot plant instrumentation, control systems, associated electrical equipment, field devices, wiring, I/O systems, communication networks, and control loops. Calibrate and repair pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration, combustion, and analytical instrumentation; maintain control valves, actuators, positioners, and pneumatic systems. Support DCS and operator interface systems, CEMS, flame scanners, combustion controls, excitation-system interfaces, protective relay interfaces, turbine controls, HRSGs, generators, and balance-of-plant systems. Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, logic diagrams, control wiring drawings, and vendor manuals. Prepare and execute LOTO packages; support plant startups, shutdowns, outages, commissioning, functional testing, and post-maintenance testing. Maintain accurate calibration, equipment, and work-order records; coordinate work with operations personnel, contractors, and vendors. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Minimum two years of experience in power generation, industrial instrumentation and controls, industrial electrical maintenance, or a related industrial environment. Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or process-control systems, with the ability to interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, schematics, and control wiring diagrams. Basic computer proficiency, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work overtime, callouts, weekends, holidays, varied shifts, and outage schedules as required. Must possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card or be able to obtain one before the employment start date. Preferred Qualifications: Technical degree or certificate in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Automation, or a related field. Power generation or combined-cycle plant experience supporting combustion turbines, HRSGs, generators, and balance-of-plant systems. Experience troubleshooting and maintaining General Electric Mark VIe control systems and Distributed Control Systems. Experience with CEMS, turbine instrumentation, combustion controls, flame scanners, control valves, pneumatic systems, outages, commissioning, and startup activities. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an operating power plant in indoor and outdoor environments and may include elevated areas, confined spaces, rotating or energized equipment, industrial hazards, and varying weather conditions. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, respond to audible alarms, and wear required PPE and respiratory protection. Callout, overtime, shift coverage, weekend, holiday, and outage support may be required. NRG Energy is committed to a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
