This position reads production documentation, verifies parts, responds to normal tool wear, and maintains consistent quality and output with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities Machine Operation & Setup Support • Operate assigned CNC equipment independently on established jobs and maintain expected cycle flow. • Load programs, locate setup documentation, verify tools and workholding, and assist with or perform basic repeat setups when authorized. • Replace worn inserts or approved tools, enter tool wear adjustments, and make routine offsets within assigned authority. • Complete proper startup, warm-up, shutdown, changeover, and shift-handoff activities.
Quality & Process Control • Read drawings and job documentation to identify dimensions, tolerances, material, revision, and inspection frequency. • Perform and document in-process inspection using appropriate measuring tools and gauges. • Recognize tool wear, chatter, finish changes, chip-control problems, or dimensional trends and respond within training. • Contain questionable product and promptly communicate quality or process concerns.
Production, Safety & Communication • Maintain accurate ERP labor, quantity, scrap, and job-status information. • Communicate tooling, material, equipment, quality, and schedule roadblocks early. • Follow required PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, chip and coolant handling, lifting, housekeeping, and other machine-shop safety requirements. • Stop work and report unsafe conditions, damaged tooling, machine alarms, unusual noise, leaks, or quality concerns. • Maintain an orderly work area and complete assigned basic machine-care and cleaning tasks.
Required Skills & Qualifications • Demonstrated proficiency in Machinist I responsibilities. • Ability to operate CNC equipment with limited supervision and perform routine tool and offset adjustments. • Working knowledge of blueprints, tolerances, basic shop math, ERP reporting, and precision measurement. • Ability to recognize abnormal machining conditions and seek appropriate technical support.
Performance Expectations • Runs established work independently and maintains consistent quality. • Uses inspection tools correctly and documents required checks. • Makes only trained and authorized adjustments. • Communicates roadblocks early and supports reliable shift handoffs.
Physical & Work Environment
• Work is performed in an active machine shop with moving equipment, noise, chips, coolants, metalworking fluids, and changing temperatures. • Requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, handling parts and tooling, and close visual inspection. • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds and use team-lifting or mechanical assistance for heavier items. • Required PPE and all applicable safe-work procedures must be followed.
