Dubak Electrical Group is hiring a summer Electrical Design Intern to help design, draft, and coordinate real-world power distribution and low-voltage systems, from the service entrance to branch circuits.

Start Date: June 7, 2027

Position: Electrical Design Intern

Location: La Grange Park, Illinois

Duration: Paid, Full-time, 10-week summer program

Pay: $20.00/hour

What You’ll Learn:

• Understanding of project scope of work as specified on contracts.

• Learn technical writing skills developing functional design specifications.

• Code: Practical application of the NEC

• Tools: Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, and Excel-based calculation tools.

• Process: How design-build projects move from schematic design through submittal, fabrication, and installation.

• Collaboration: How to work with Project Management, Prefabrication, and Controls teams, with mentoring from a senior electrical designer throughout the summer.

What You’ll Work On:

•

• Draft one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and power plans in Revit and AutoCAD.

• Perform NEC calculations, including feeder and branch-circuit sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, and service load calculations.

• Model conduit, cable tray, and equipment in Revit and help resolve clash-detection issues during BIM/VDC coordination.

• Support structured cabling and low-voltage layouts, including pathways, IDF/MDF rooms, and rack elevations.

• Prepare submittal packages and redline markups alongside Project Management interns.

• Participate in QA/QC reviews of drawings and learn how an IFM-grade drawing package is checked.

• Develop bills of material that Prefabrication interns use to build EDC assemblies.

• Learn the basics of electrical design through a comprehensive 10-week structured program.

• Utilize software and technology tools efficiently (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).

• Demonstrate curiosity by asking insightful questions and seeking out learning opportunities.

• Thrive under pressure to meet deadlines and achieve project goals.

Qualifications:

• Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management program or a related field.

• Sophomore, Junior or Senior standing in college.

• Solid academic record (minimum GPA of 3.2).

• Strong math aptitude skills.

• Effective communicator with both verbal and written skills.

• Basic understanding of circuit theory and single-phase and three-phase power systems.

• Exposure to AutoCAD or Revit through coursework or projects is a plus but is not required.

• Comfortable working in Excel and eager to learn the NEC.

• A keen interest in building a career within the construction industry.

• Able to visit our fabrication shop and job sites throughout the Chicagoland area.
