Main duties of the job

The provision of dental care in Defence Primary HealthCare (DPHC) dental centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

As a MOD Dentist you will be contracted for 18.5 hours per week. One hour per week may be attributed to non-clinical activities including practice meetings, training and personal administration (admin). The remainder of the contracted hours are to be utilised to provide clinical outputs and work directed towards improving and maintaining the dental health and operational fitness of personnel for whom you are responsible.

Where necessary MOD Dentists will adopt a concurrent and team-based approach to ensure efficiency by completing activities such as, but not limited to referrals, lab work management, mandatory/trade specific training.

Job description Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Inspecting all personnel for whom they are responsible at intervals in line with The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines and providing follow up treatment as required.Providing an occupational oral health assessment, being fully conversant with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Dental Fitness categorisation and dental input into the Joint Medical Employment Standard for Service personnel.Ensuring that contemporaneous notes are recorded on individuals integrated electronic healthcare records for all episodes of care. Ensuring that surgery management, documentation including consumable stores, the safe custody of personal sensitive data and the maintenance of equipment is always kept to a high standard.Onward referral of personnel to enhanced practitioners, specialists or consultants for treatment as appropriate.Please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification for further details.

Cyber and Specialist Operations Command (CSOC) is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to design the way in which the new Military Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As this is a part time role, the salary is on a pro rata basis from the full time equivlent stated.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

As a result of the changes to the UK immigration rules which came into effect on 1 January 2021, the Ministry of Defence will only offer sponsorship for a skilled worker visa under the points-based system, where a role has been deemed to be business critical. Person Specification

Registrations and Memberships Essential

Full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) without conditions. Please provide your membership registration number and ensure you include details on any current, spent or impending restrictions to practice. You are required to be registered with the relevant professional body, as detailed in the advert, prior to submitting your application. Qualifications Essential

Have undertaken Foundation Dentist Training (or have qualified before foundation training became compulsory in the National Health Service). OR Have evidence of adequate current clinical experience (either in the United Kingdom or abroad) to be able to practice independently.

Experience Essential

To ensure patient safety, applicants are required to have maintain evidence of clinical currency undertaking operative primary dental care, specifically a minimum of 2 clinical sessions per week over the last 15 months.
