Job summary
The Respiratory Healthcare Support Worker will support the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred Community Respiratory Service across Powys, contributing to the assessment, diagnosis, monitoring and management of patients with respiratory conditions. Working under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Lead, Respiratory Specialist Nurses, Physiologists and Respiratory Practitioners, the post holder will undertake delegated clinical and non-clinical duties in accordance with established protocols, competencies and professional standards.
The Respiratory Healthcare Support Worker will provide clinical and administrative support to the Community Respiratory Service, contributing to the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care across Powys. Working under the supervision of registered practitioners and within agreed competencies, the post holder will support respiratory and sleep diagnostic services, home oxygen provision and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in supporting the provision of respiratory services across community, clinic and domiciliary settings, helping to improve patient access to care closer to home. This will include assisting with respiratory assessments, spirometry and other respiratory diagnostic testing, monitoring patients with long-term respiratory conditions such as COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis and interstitial lung disease (ILD), and supporting the delivery of evidence-based care and treatment plans.
The role will involve preparing patients for assessment and diagnostic procedures, accurately recording clinical observations and test results, maintaining equipment and consumables, supporting virtual and face-to-face clinics, and assisting with patient education and self-management programmes. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen assessment and review services, smoking cessation support, exacerbation monitoring, and remote monitoring pathways where appropriate.

Job description Job responsibilities Respiratory Diagnostics
Support the delivery of respiratory diagnostic services across clinic, community and domiciliary settings. Prepare patients for respiratory assessments and diagnostic procedures. Undertake delegated respiratory diagnostic testing, including spirometry, following completion of appropriate training and competency assessment. Assist with bronchodilator reversibility testing and other respiratory investigations within agreed protocols. Ensure accurate recording and documentation of test results within patient records and electronic systems. Maintain, clean, calibrate and prepare respiratory diagnostic equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidance and service procedures. Support the scheduling, organisation and administration of diagnostic clinics. Monitor stock levels, consumables and equipment required for respiratory diagnostic services. Sleep Diagnostics Support the delivery of sleep diagnostic services for patients undergoing assessment for sleep-disordered breathing, including suspected obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Prepare and issue sleep monitoring equipment, including overnight oximetry and sleep study devices. Provide patients and carers with verbal and written instructions regarding the use of sleep diagnostic equipment. Download, process and upload diagnostic data for clinical review in accordance with local procedures. Perform equipment checks, cleaning, maintenance and preparation between patient use. Assist in managing equipment inventories and supporting the effective utilisation of sleep diagnostic resources Home Oxygen Services Support the respiratory team in the assessment, monitoring and review of patients receiving home oxygen therapy. Assist in completing home oxygen risk assessments in line with local and national guidance. Identify and escalate potential risks relating to oxygen safety, smoking, fire safety and equipment usage. Support patient and carer education regarding the safe use, storage and management of oxygen equipment. The Respiratory Healthcare Support Worker will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members, primary care colleagues, acute services and community partners to support seamless care, facilitate early intervention and promote patient independence.
