Job summary
CAMHS Clinical Specialist (Professionally registered Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist, Systemic Psychotherapist, Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, Nurse or Social Worker)
The team provides a service to children and young people with complexneurodevelopmental and /or moderate to severe learning disabilities and their families.Referrals are received from Health including GP and Child Health, Children's Social Care,and Education. Children and young people referred have a range of difficulties includingchallenging behaviour and significant mental health problems. In response we provide assessments and evidence-based interventions/treatment. The post holder will have experience offering evidence based interventions to ideally, neurodivergent children and families. Appropriate training will be provided for the right candidate
Main duties of the job
To provide CAMHS assessments and evidence-based interventions to children referred to the NDT
To contribute to the service's MDT when discussing formulations and treatment plans.
To ensure that all recording and reporting of client contact are accurate, up to date, of good quality and within CAMHS and professional requirement standards of record keeping. To collect & collate information about individual clinical activity on ePJS
To provide support and advise parents/carers through parenting interventions and psychoeducation, as well as offer consultation and advice to their professional networks
- To think creatively, work flexibly and have a range of clinical skills in working alongside others to support a complex range of service users and their network.
To link with other statutory and voluntary agencies and professionals as well as other CAMHS Teams in terms of referrals and joint work. Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professional agencies and departments, providing specialist advice and support where appropriate

Key Result Area 1: Clinical and Client Care Provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and evidence-based interventions for children, young people, their families and wider networks where complex mental health needs have been identified. Deliver culturally appropriate interventions in partnership with service users, carers, families and professional networks. Assess, monitor and manage clinical risk, developing and implementing appropriate risk management plans. Act as Care Coordinator, taking responsibility for care planning, reviews, coordination of services and multi-agency meetings. Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively through direct discussion, written reports and professional consultation. Support and promote psychological wellbeing for families and carers. Ensure services are accessible, respectful and responsive to the diverse communities served by Southwark CAMHS. Key Result Area 2: Contributing to Team and Service Functioning Contribute to the effective operation of the multidisciplinary team within a psychologically and systemically informed framework. Provide consultation, advice and specialist expertise to colleagues regarding family therapy and systemic psychotherapy approaches. Work collaboratively with team members to deliver therapeutic interventions. Challenge discrimination, promote equality and support the development of culturally competent services. Liaise with referrers, GPs and partner agencies to support coordinated care planning and service delivery. Lead or participate in network meetings where appropriate. Use current research, evidence-based practice and professional knowledge to support clinical decision-making and service improvement. Contribute to initiatives supporting families and carers. Key Result Area 3: Policy and Service Development Implement Trust policies, procedures and professional standards within own area of practice. Identify opportunities for service improvement and contribute to the development of new initiatives. Participate in projects supporting service enhancement and innovation. Support consultation and engagement activities with service users to help shape services that reflect community needs. Key Result Area 4: Resources Use Trust equipment, facilities and resources responsibly and efficiently. Ensure resources are maintained appropriately and used in line with organisational procedures. Key Result Area 5: Teaching and Training Maintain specialist knowledge and awareness of developments within the professional field. Contribute to the development of staff knowledge and skills through teaching, mentoring and professional support. Share service evaluation, audit and research findings through presentations and other professional forums. Participate in and contribute to multidisciplinary training events across the Trust. Key Result Area 6: Record Keeping and Information Governance Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records in accordance with Trust policies and professional standards. Produce clear, high-quality reports and correspondence to support clinical care. Ensure all information is recorded securely and appropriately, including the use of electronic patient record systems. Key Result Area 7: Research and Development Participate in service evaluations, audits and research activities relevant to service priorities. Support the development and implementation of evidence-based practice. Use findings from audit and research to improve clinical practice and service delivery. Key Result Area 8: Professional Standards and Continuing Professional Development Participate in regular clinical and professional supervision in line with Trust and professional body requirements. Maintain registration and professional standards where applicable. Undertake continuing professional development activities and contribute to agreed personal development objectives. Keep up to date with developments in clinical practice, legislation, policy and professional guidance relevant to the role. Key Result Area 9: General Responsibilities Travel as required to meetings, community settings, service locations and other Trust sites. Follow Trust policies relating to risk management, health and safety, safeguarding and lone working. Respond professionally to challenging and emotionally distressing situations, including situations involving risk, abuse or challenging behaviour. Participate in Trust-wide support processes and contribute to maintaining a safe and supportive working environment for staff, service users and families.
Person Specification
Qualification Essential
Postgraduate accredited training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Postgraduate accredited training in Systemic Psychotherapy Doctorate level qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or HV or First level qualification in OT, social work All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , Health Professional's Council (HPC/ HCPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) or The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) .
Desirable
Training in one or more evidence based trauma intervention Specific additional therapeutic modality training and qualification e.g. ABFT, EFT, NVR, DBT, IPT etc.
Experience Essential
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team Experience of working with a wide range of mental health problems commonly seen in CAMHS Experience of working with young people who have experienced traumatic events Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience.
