Play a key role in ensuring that people living in the city are supported to have good oral health.

Join our small yet but dedicated team to facilitate the promotion of good oral health to all living within Leicester City. Our service aim to reduce health inequalities between different populations in Leicester by understanding the barriers faced by communities and working with them to overcome them. As part of the Oral Health Promotion Service within the Public Health team, youll encourage settings such as nurseries, pre-schools, childminders, primary schools and others, particularly those in areas of high deprivation to participate in the Supervised Toothbrushing Programme.

Based either at home or at City Hall, youll be positively contributing to the maintenance and uptake of the supervised toothbrushing programme, whilst contributing to a wide range of oral health promotion activities.

This is a full time, permanent, working 37 hours per week over 5 days, with the ability to work occasionally outside normal office hours, e.g. for meetings, training delivery, parents evenings, events, etc. Youll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at City Hall or working remotely from home.

Main duties of the job

What youll be doing

Youll work with early years providers and schools within Leicester to promote the supervised toothbrushing programme. Youll provide guidance and governance to those already participating in the programme, including the provision of additional promotional activities within their setting. You will also engage with early years providers and schools who do not participate in the supervised toothbrushing programme in a targeted manner. You will also provide ongoing support via training, phone calls, emails and in person visits.

Youll engage with key stakeholders including dental practices, public health teams, NHS organisations and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise organisations to raise awareness of oral health issues and deliver the oral health programmes in the city. Youll conduct training sessions to explain health concepts, ensuring they are engaged and understand the key messages. Youll also support the team to develop and promote key national campaigns.

Job description Job responsibilities

Collaboration: Engage with key stakeholders and local communities to ensure that key oral health promoting messages are imparted and understood by the local population in key stages of life. Develop effective relationships with early years providers, schools and other venues to encourage the participation of the Supervised Toothbrushing programme, including oral health promotion with children, parents and carers. Work in partnership with key stakeholders on delivering and evaluating the success of national campaigns that promote and raise awareness of oral health issues. Work across agencies to provide training for all frontline workforce and ensure that oral health brief advice is delivered by general healthcare, social care and voluntary care professionals and workers. Deliver oral health messages to vulnerable groups across the community as agreed with key stakeholders, visiting groups in harder to reach organisations and areas, for example in nursing/care/residential homes, schools/childrens centres and community groups. 10% Contribute to raising awareness of oral health issues by engaging with key stakeholders and partners such as dentists, schools, childrens centres and elderly persons homes 10% Initiate monitor and evaluate accreditation schemes for early years settings, schools, nursing and residential homes. 10% Develop persuasive materials and resources to gain support for oral health promotion delivery and activities. These include power point presentations, posters, leaflets, worksheets, practical activities/games. Establish Oral Health Promotion Networks to ensure up-to-date messages and information are available and engender partnership working on common issues and campaigns. Develop effective neighbourhood-based networks to build awareness of oral health issues including establishing and training community based oral health champions. The post holder will facilitate the uptake and maintenance of the supervised toothbrushing programme. + in the context of supervising the work of temporarily assigned staff/volunteers/external contracted staff: To provide decisive and effective leadership to team(s) in line with the councils Vision & Values and Leadership Qualities that enables them to do their best work resulting in high levels of people and organisational performance. Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of providing oral health promotion in a community setting. Experience of working well as part of a team to deliver a quality service and achieve shared objectives whilst using excellent interpersonal & communication skills Experience of planning and successfully delivery projects / campaigns in a community setting.

Qualifications Essential

Qualified and General Dental Council (GDC) registered Dental Nurse Full UK Driving License
