An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Healthcare Assistant to join our busy and friendly GP surgery in Guildford, conveniently located just off the A3.
Youll become an important part of our supportive clinical team, working alongside another experienced Healthcare Assistant, our nursing team and GPs to provide high-quality care to our diverse patient population.
We care for approximately 17,000 patients, including students from the University of Surrey, creating a varied and interesting working environment. We are a practice that values teamwork, professional development and innovation, and we are actively involved in both research and training.
Our established team includes 2 GP Partners, 8 Salaried GPs, 3 Nurses, two Healthcare Assistants and a strong, friendly administrative team. We pride ourselves on working collaboratively and supporting one another to deliver the best possible experience for our patients.

Main duties of the job
The key skills required are the ability to work effectively within a busy team, as well as independently, good communication in a fast paced environment, time management and being able to work within the GDPR guidelines.

You will join a busy and enthusiastic team of Nurses and HCAs. Our HCAs have a varied work load and are encouraged to work to the top of their skillset. Training can be provided for the right candidate.

Job summary:
Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Duties and responsibilities:
NHS Healthchecks
ECG recording
24 hour blood pressure monitoring
Phlebotomy
Spirometry
Chaperoning duties
Wound care/dressings
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
Cleansing and maintenance of equipment
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Supplies, equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
Vaccinations B12, Influenza, Pneumococcal and Shingles
Clip/suture removal
Chronic disease monitoring
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
Implementation of new services as specified by either the Practice, CCG or NHS England
Ensuring opportunities to reach targets eg QOF are maximised and completed.
Any other duties deemed appropriate for the role by the Nurse Manager.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience of primary care. Experience in dealing with the public/patients. Experience working under pressure
Desirable
Experience in a healthcare setting. Experience of using our IT systems - EMIS and Docman. Care certificate - qualified to NVQ. Experience of primary care. Experience in dealing with the public/patients. Competent in the areas required for the post with accompanying certification. Excellent communication skills. Able to demonstrate enthusiasm to develop nursing skills. An understanding of confidentiality. Able to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense. Ability to work without direct supervision and to determine workload priorities. Able to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team. Able to work under pressure. Able to work in a changing environment.
