Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated psychology graduate to work as an Assistant Psychologist (band 4) in adult community psychological services across North East Essex. The post will be based across the North East Essex specialist community mental health teams (Colchester and Tendring). This is an excellent opportunity to be part of dynamic and dedicated services, to gain experience of applied psychology in the NHS, and to learn about working in integrated MDTs. The contract is 12 month fixed term.

Main duties of the job
The role centres on supporting qualified staff in the running of adult community psychological services. The post holder will assist the psychological services team members in the provision of group interventions and, under supervision and with supportive guidance, provide manualised specific one to one interventions. They will also be part of a supportive Assistant Psychologist group who provide review calls to people on our waiting list as part of our work on service user experience and safety.
There will also be an emphasis on securing outcomes from people who are accessing the service, and contributing to associated data reporting as part of a quality and accountability framework.
The post is embedded in the Specialist Community Mental Health teams (SMHTs) and as such the Assistant Psychologist will gain experiences of assessment, formulation development, and intervention planning through working with qualified Psychologists, Psychotherapists, and Clinical Associates in Psychology (CAPs), as well as MDT colleagues. There are multiple opportunities to access reflective practice and mentoring from colleagues and to network with APs in other services.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification Essential
Entitlement to graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society. Additional evidence of CPD and associated learning in areas relevant to adult mental health setting Minimum 2:1 in undergraduate psychology degree or relevant conversion qualification
Desirable
Masters level qualification in relevant area or training in a relevant evidence based psychological intervention e.g. introductory training in CBT/ CFT/ ACT/ Family Therapy
Knowledge Essential
High level communication skills (written and verbal) demonstrated. Knowledge of research and statistical methods, with examples given. Knowledge of using computers for databases or data analysis, including statistical software, in a clinical setting.
Skills/Experience Essential
Experience of undertaking psychologically informed interventions with adults with severe mental health problems, under supervision. Experience of assisting in the provision of care to service users in community mental health settings.
Desirable
Experience of assisting in facilitating group interventions Experience of providing manualised one to one psychological intervention under supervision
