Hours: 30 per week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Porter to join our busy Endoscopy Team.

Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) Endoscopy Service is based across two sites: Milton Keynes University Hospital and Whitehouse Park Community Diagnostic Centre (WHP). Our purpose-built units support both outpatient and inpatient endoscopic procedures. The service comprises four endoscopy theatres at MKUH, including one equipped for X-ray screening and laser procedures, and two endoscopy theatres at WHP.

The post will be based at the MKUH site. The main responsibilities of the role include safely transferring patients between the Endoscopy Unit and inpatient wards as required by the clinical team, moving medical equipment in a safe and compliant manner, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support patient care and the day-to-day running of the Endoscopy Unit.

The post holder will work alongside Endoscopists, Nurses, Nursing Associates and Healthcare Assistants to deliver high-quality care to patients across all areas of the department. This can be a physically demanding and challenging role; however, it is also highly rewarding for the right candidate.

To provide a safe, efficient, and courteous portering service within the Endoscopy Unit, supporting the movement of patients, equipment, specimens, supplies, and waste. The post holder will contribute to the smooth running of the service by ensuring patients and staff receive timely support while maintaining high standards of patient care, dignity, and safety.

Previous experience is not essential, as full training will be provided as part of the Trust induction course. This generally covers information about the hospital, healthand safety, lifting techniques etc.

If you are friendly, helpful, calm, reassuring, motivated, enthusiastic and a confident team worker with good communication skills you will be well suited to work within this large multidisciplinary team.

Job description Job responsibilities

Patient Movement

Patient Movement

Escort patients safely to and from the Endoscopy Unit, wards, imaging departments, theatres, recovery areas, and discharge locations.

Assist patients with mobility needs, including the use of wheelchairs and trolleys.

Clinical Support

Assist clinical staff in preparing recovery areas as directed.

Support patient flow throughout the department to reduce delays and improve efficiency.

Transport specimens to designated collection points in accordance with Trust policies.

Equipment and Supplies

Check wheelchairs, trolleys, and transport equipment are clean and fit for use.

Report any faults or defects in equipment to the appropriate person.

Environmental Duties

Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organised clinical environment.

Transport waste, linen, and clinical waste in accordance with Trust policies and infection prevention standards.

Support housekeeping activities during periods of high activity as directed.

Communication

Interacting with patient during transfers

Maintain effective communication with nursing, medical, administrative, and support staff.

Respond promptly to requests for patient transfers and equipment transportation.

Qualifications and knowledge Essential

Good standard of education-minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C including: Math's, English and Science.
