Job Title: Forklift OperatorJob DescriptionThis role supports a climate-controlled chemical storage facility by safely operating forklifts and handling materials, while accurately managing inventory and shipping documentation. You will balance hands-on forklift work with computer-based receiving and shipping tasks, ensuring materials are stored, tracked, and shipped in accordance with safety standards and customer requirements. Responsibilities • Follow written work instructions, job breakdowns, standard operating procedures, and other work instructions precisely. • Receive and direct truck drivers and deliveries, including completing logistics documentation and related paperwork. • Unload materials from trucks, verify packing slips, note any discrepancies, and distribute items to appropriate team members or storage locations. • Convey materials and items from receiving areas to storage or other designated areas using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other approved equipment. • Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequences such as size, temperature specifications, type, style, or product code. • Sort and store temperature-controlled items in appropriate refrigerated rooms, ensuring proper handling and placement. • Read and follow customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. • Arrange materials in order of first-in-first-out (FIFO) or other customer-specified sequencing requirements. • Mark materials with identifying information such as pallet tags and verify the accuracy of labeling and documentation. • Wrap and prepare skids and parcels for shipping, ensuring they are properly packaged and labeled. • Support shipping activities by printing labels for outgoing shipments and processing packages through carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL. • Track inventory using proprietary warehouse software and maintain accurate inventory records. • Use a computer for inter-company correspondence, email, web browsing, light Excel use, and to download temperature recorder data and verify temperature control against packing slips. • Receive items and store them in the warehouse, ensuring accurate data entry and proper storage locations. • Prepare parcels for mailing and ensure all shipping documents and labels are correct. • Operate sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, and other designated equipment safely to move, put away, or retrieve materials in accordance with safety rules and regulations. • Count items within the service center to ensure conformance to company standards and inventory accuracy. • Work in a receiving-focused position that may be approximately half on the forklift and half on computer-based receiving and shipping tasks. • Shadow and complete tasks under supervision multiple times, and participate in audits before performing tasks independently. • Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude while working closely with a small warehouse team. • Work a fluctuating-day shift schedule, including holidays, and be available for typical weekly overtime as needed. Essential Skills • Recent sit-down forklift operation experience. • Proficiency in forklift operation, including loading, unloading, and material handling. • Ability to use RF scanners for inventory and picking tasks. • Computer proficiency, including email, web browser use, and light Excel. • Ability to use computers for inter-company correspondence and inventory tracking. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. • Ability to work a shift schedule where working days may fluctuate and include holidays. • Strong attention to detail when following written work instructions and verifying packing slips. • Capability to work both independently and as part of a small team. • Positive, team-oriented attitude. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience tracking inventory using proprietary or specialized warehouse software. • Experience with RF scanners for inventory management and picking. • Experience with shipping and receiving using UPS, FedEx, and DHL systems. • Comfort working in a role that is approximately 50% forklift operation and 50% computer-based receiving and shipping tasks. • Ability to read and interpret customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, and requisitions. • Familiarity with FIFO and other customer-specific sequencing methods. • Experience working in a climate-controlled warehouse or storage environment. • Willingness to be shadowed and audited on tasks multiple times before working independently. • Strong organizational skills for sorting, labeling, and arranging materials. • Reliable attendance and flexibility to work overtime when needed. Work EnvironmentYou will work in a climate-controlled warehouse storage facility that handles chemical materials, operating within a structured and safety-conscious environment. The core team consists of approximately four people, creating a close-knit and collaborative atmosphere where communication and teamwork are essential. The shift schedule typically follows a four-days-on, three-days-off pattern with 10-hour days from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including a one-hour lunch, and you can expect around 5 to 10 hours of overtime per week, with working days set in advance but not always on consecutive days. There is a consistent workload to support a full 40-hour week, and you must be able to work on holidays as needed. You will regularly use sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, computers, and carrier systems such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL to perform your duties. The dress code includes pants, a t-shirt, and steel-toe footwear, aligning with safety and practical requirements in the warehouse environment. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
