Job Title: Automotive Mechanic Commercial Truck ModificationJob DescriptionThis role focuses on modifying new commercial trucks into specialized auto transport and municipal work vehicles. You will perform extensive mechanical and assembly work on medium and heavy-duty trucks, including steering conversions, suspension changes, and custom configurations for auto transport and work truck applications. Technicians support multiple production lines and stall-based bays, working from detailed picture-based work instructions to deliver high-quality, OEM-level results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment at a headquarters facility.Responsibilities

• Perform extensive assembly and modification work on new commercial trucks using printed picture work instructions. • Complete decontent tasks, including removing interior panels, flooring, and equipment from truck cabs as part of Stage 1 operations. • Install floor plates, modify cab flooring, and fit right-hand drive (RHD) floor plate assemblies, including routing under-cab airlines and trimming kick plates and fenders. • Run pre-built wiring harness extensions, perform mild harness repinning when needed, and install new electronic modules following documented procedures. • Reassemble truck cabs, including installation of steering assemblies, switch layouts, and dash components to OEM quality standards. • Work on stall-based build bays, completing full truck modifications from start to finish as a single technician where required. • Perform modifications such as wire routing, steering conversions, suspension swaps, hydraulic all-wheel-drive setups, and PTO installations in stall environments. • Execute Variable Power Divider (VPD) installations, including transmission dropping, VPD unit installation, related wiring, and suspension spring swapping. • Support auto haul (AH) line operations, including decontent of interior cab parts, exterior preparation, cab height and frame modifications, and final assembly with OEM and modified components. • Use hand tools, air impacts, battery impacts, socket wrenches, drills, and related equipment throughout the workday to complete mechanical tasks. • Follow plug-and-play electrical routing instructions accurately, ensuring clean, reliable connections and proper harness routing. • Read and interpret picture-based work instructions to sequence tasks correctly and maintain consistent build quality. • Collaborate with leads and other technicians on assembly line and stall operations, supporting efficient workflow and on-time completion. • Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment responsibly to support safety and quality standards. • Adhere to production schedules and manufacturing deadlines while maintaining high workmanship standards. • Participate in training and onboarding activities as new lines and processes ramp up, applying new techniques and procedures as needed. • Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on mechanical and assembly issues encountered during builds. • Communicate effectively with team members and leads regarding build status, issues, and improvement opportunities. • Comply with all safety policies, including proper use of PPE, safe lifting practices, and correct operation of tools and equipment. Essential Skills

• Hands-on heavy truck experience, including working on medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. • Ability to pull and swap transmissions safely and efficiently in a production environment. • Experience performing suspension changes, including spring swapping and related mechanical adjustments. • Strong automotive mechanic, with experience as an assembler, mechanic, or automotive technician. • Proficiency using air impacts, battery impacts, socket wrenches, drills, and a wide assortment of sockets and related tools. • Capability to perform extensive assembly modification work based on picture-based work instructions rather than traditional blueprints. • Comfort working with plug-and-play wiring and basic electrical routing following documented instructions. • Ability to work independently in a stall environment, taking a truck from start to finish, as well as collaboratively in small teams. • Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for commercial truck modifications. • Reliability in meeting production expectations and manufacturing deadlines in a fast-paced setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Nice-to-have experience rebuilding transmissions and performing more advanced drivetrain work. • Nice-to-have wiring experience beyond plug-and-play, including routing and basic harness modifications. • Education in automotive technology, diesel technology, or a related mechanical field. • Experience with collision, body, or heavy truck body work, particularly for technicians interested in paint and body operations. • Familiarity with hydraulic systems, all-wheel-drive setups, and PTO installations. • Experience working in an assembly line environment with defined stages and processes. • Comfort reading and following detailed visual work instructions and process documentation. • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Work is primarily on first shift, with typical hours from approximately 5:30 a.m. to mid-afternoon on weekdays; some extended hours to around 4:00 p.m. and occasional Saturday work may be needed to support production demands. The facility is not climate controlled, so conditions will reflect seasonal temperatures. Technicians may work independently in single-truck stalls or as part of small teams of 23 people on assembly lines, depending on department and assignment. You will use hand tools, air and battery impacts, drills, and other standard shop equipment throughout the day in a production-floor environment. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
