We are hiring for 100% Remote Oncology Nurse Job DescriptionThe Telehealth Remote Oncology Triage Nurse provides expert telephonic triage and remote patient care for oncology patients, assessing symptoms, determining the appropriate level of care, and coordinating timely interventions. Working within established national and organizational standards, this role focuses on accurate clinical assessment, patient education, and meticulous documentation in electronic health records, while supporting quality initiatives and compliance programs to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.Responsibilities
• Respond promptly to patient calls, portal messages, and emails, using open-ended questions and standing orders to accurately assess and manage a wide range of oncology-related symptoms and treatment side effects. • Evaluate the urgency of patient symptoms, proactively managing care and coordinating with members of the healthcare team via electronic communication or phone when cases require urgent attention beyond standard protocols. • Conduct telephonic assessments of oncology patients to determine the appropriate level of care, facilitating outpatient and telehealth visits when symptoms can be safely managed in those settings. • Educate patients on symptom management, medication side effects, and treatment plans, providing clear instructions and empathetic support to promote understanding, adherence, and self-management. • Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care. • Document all patient interactions, assessments, interventions, and care elements thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system. • Utilize and adapt quickly to various technology platforms, telecommunication tools, and reporting systems to support efficient and accurate remote patient care and documentation. • Identify potential barriers to care and assist patients in navigating healthcare systems, resources, and support services to optimize access and continuity of care. • Accurately recognize high-risk conditions and escalate or direct patients to appropriate resources, including urgent or emergent care, when necessary. • Provide patient education and guidance that addresses physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care, ensuring a holistic and patient-centered approach. • Deliver professional nursing care under general supervision in accordance with national standards, organizational guidelines, and state licensing board scope of practice. • Participate in company-wide quality initiatives and support the oncology compliance program, including adherence to the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. • Engage in ongoing professional development, staying current with best practices in oncology nursing, telephonic triage, and telehealth care delivery. • Attend all required onsite meetings and trainings at the designated office location to maintain alignment with clinical protocols, technology updates, and organizational initiatives. Essential Skills
• Prior telehealth or remote triage experience providing clinical assessment and guidance over the phone or through virtual platforms. • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license from Texas or another compact state, with the ability to hold a Texas multistate or compact license as required. • Oncology Certified Nurse credential or the ability and commitment to obtain oncology certification within 1 year of hire. • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, including at least 2 recent years in oncology, specifically in hematology-oncology clinic or hospital settings. • Demonstrated proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and clinical workflows. • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to assess complex oncology symptoms and determine appropriate interventions. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain clinical information clearly and compassionately to patients and caregivers. • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment while maintaining high standards of clinical care and documentation. • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care that recognizes physical, psychological, and spiritual needs. • Comfort and skill in using telecommunication tools and technology platforms to deliver telehealth services and triage care. • Experience in case management or coordinating care across multiple providers and settings. • Familiarity with oncology treatment protocols, common side effects, and symptom management strategies. • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and trust with patients and families in a remote setting. • Ability to quickly adapt to new technology, reporting platforms, and workflow changes in a telehealth environment. • Commitment to supporting organizational quality improvement initiatives and compliance programs. • Willingness and ability to attend onsite meetings and trainings at the office in The Woodlands, Texas as required. Work EnvironmentThis is a remote telehealth nursing role with standard working hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. The nurse delivers care primarily via telephone and electronic communication tools, using electronic health record systems and various telehealth platforms to assess patients, document care, and collaborate with the healthcare team. While the position is predominantly remote, attendance at onsite meetings and trainings at the office in The Woodlands, Texas is required.
