Major Systems Supervisor

Summary: Serves as the technical lead for the major systems team and performs complex research and technical engineering for enterprise server systems required to install, support, maintain, administer, back up, restore, troubleshoot, patch, and upgrade operating systems, utilities, and enterprise applications.

Qualifications: Required

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. • Five (5) years of experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining computer operating software systems, one (1) year of which shall have been in a project management in an oversight or supervisory role. • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

• Knowledge of the theory, principles, functionality, and specifications of computer operating software systems for physical and virtual servers and enterprise workstations. • Knowledge of the principles and practices of systems programming. • Knowledge of enterprise Linux operating systems and server administration principles. • Advanced knowledge of local area network (LAN) architecture, maintenance, troubleshooting, configuration, high availability, and security principles. • Knowledge of enterprise storage, backup, disaster recovery, and load-balancing technologies and principles. • Ability to conduct evaluative studies, solve complex problems, and design and install solutions. • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Major Duties/Essential Functions: • Serves as the point of contact for projects involving the deployment of new operating software or projects involving the upgrade of existing software. • Performs, directs, and monitors the generation of these systems to include upgrades and patches, to ensure that new systems meet enterprise specifications, function properly, and are installed with minimum user disruption. • Manages project teams and reviews and evaluates assigned staff members. • Performs the more complex team activities. • Complies with enterprise standards including current standards, procedures, and documentation. • Develops and administers procedures to incorporate new or changed software. • Develops training for and trains employees, as required; provides user support and education. • Conducts performance studies to monitor efficiency. • Is responsible for data management; participates in hardware and software feasibility studies. • Documents corrective procedures and prepares after-action reports, as appropriate. • Maintains the technical library. • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
