Job Summary Dominion Energy seeks a highly motivated Instrument Technician I or II to support instrumentation and control systems at its Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Facility. The technician installs, configures, calibrates, tests, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs electrical, pneumatic, and microprocessor-based instrumentation and control systems. This includes process measurement, control valves, analyzers, gas-detection systems, fire-and-gas systems, emergency shutdown systems, PLCs, SCADA interfaces, and related regulatory and measurement equipment. The technician maintains accurate configuration and calibration records and may train or assist less-experienced technicians. There is one position available that will be filled at the commensurate level with the successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

Inspect, test, service, troubleshoot, repair, configure, calibrate, and install indicating, recording, protective, and automatic control instruments used in LNG storage, transfer, liquefaction, vaporization, and send-out systems. Maintain flow meters, pressure and temperature transmitters, level instruments, control valves, regulators, analyzers, gas-detection devices, fire-and-gas systems, emergency shutdown systems, and related components. Identify causes of defective instrument or control-system performance, report findings to the supervisor, and repair or replace component parts as required. Use portable pressure gauges, manometers, loop calibrators, multimeters, communicators, test gases, and similar diagnostic equipment. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on instrumentation, control systems, and associated equipment. Verify instrument readings, perform functional and calibration testing, and accurately document maintenance, environmental, and compliance data. Troubleshoot complex and detailed instrumentation, programmable logic controller (PLC), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and safety-instrumented system interfaces. Perform required technical and engineering support functions for control-loop modifications, alarm changes, instrument replacements, and system improvements. Maintain drawings, loop sheets, calibration records, equipment histories, and configuration documentation related to instrumentation and controls. Support commissioning, startup, shutdown, inspections, and functional testing of instrumentation, control loops, alarms, interlocks, and protective systems. Serve as project lead for control-system upgrades and modifications, as assigned. May train and guide less-experienced Instrument Technicians and operations personnel.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities: Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience Note: A partial year of related work experience of six months or greater will be considered one year toward the qualifications.

Instrument Technician I: Associate’s degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field with 0–2+ years of related experience in an industrial environment; or a high school diploma or GED with at least two years of related industrial experience.

Instrument Technician II: Associate’s degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field with at least three years of related experience in an industrial environment; or a high school diploma or GED with at least five years of related industrial experience.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot instrumentation, controls, electrical circuits, and associated mechanical components. Ability to read and use piping and instrumentation diagrams, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, cause-and-effect matrices, and equipment manuals. Working knowledge of calibration practices, process measurement, control loops, and safe work practices in an industrial environment. Ability to use computerized maintenance management systems and maintain accurate electronic and written records. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, vendors, and contractors. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Valid driver’s license. Availability and flexibility to work overtime as needed, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, callouts, and rotating schedules. Preferences:

Industrial instrumentation and controls experience in LNG, natural gas processing, pipeline, petrochemical, power generation, or a similar process environment. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting process instrumentation, including flow, pressure, temperature, level, analytical, and control-valve applications. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting combustible gas detection, fire-and-gas, emergency shutdown, or safety-instrumented systems. Startup, commissioning, or operational support experience for LNG or natural gas facilities. Experience with DCS, SCADA, PLC, or human-machine interface systems. PLC experience, including ladder-logic programming and troubleshooting. Control-system upgrade, migration, or modification experience. Experience with custody-transfer or process measurement instrumentation. Knowledge of hazardous-area equipment and intrinsically safe systems. Education Requirements A degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of the preferred level of education.

Certificates/Security Clearances/Other: Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license. Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description Note: Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.

For Nuclear employees, this ANSI standard must be met, all of which is met or exceeded in the Engineer series job summaries with the exception of the Nuclear Power experience requirement of at least 1 year:

ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 Education requirements: Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science. Minimum experience for the position: Related experience which shall include 2 years; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 year.
