As a Customs Assistant within Aldi's Supply Chain function, you will play a key role in ensuring goods move efficiently across international borders while maintaining compliance with customs legislation.
Working closely with customs agents, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, you will help manage customs declarations, maintain critical master data, drive process improvements, and support initiatives that improve service levels and reduce costs.

Your New Role
Manage and oversee customs declarations, either through direct completion or by coordinating and controlling third-party customs agents. Ensure customs entries are completed accurately and in line with legislative and business requirements, supporting compliant movement of goods. Own and maintain customs-related master data, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and fit for operational and compliance purposes. Monitor customs performance and proactively resolve issues that could impact product availability, supply chain continuity, or service levels. Work closely with suppliers and internal departments to gather, validate, and maintain product, supplier, and customs information. Lead investigations into customs-related issues, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions. Support customs compliance activities by maintaining strong controls, governance processes, and documentation standards. Identify opportunities to reduce customs and supply chain costs through process improvements, optimisation initiatives, and effective use of customs procedures and schemes. Review customs processes and ways of working, recommending and implementing improvements that increase efficiency and reduce risk. Build strong relationships with customs agents, logistics providers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth and effective customs operations. Analyse and present customs and operational data, using insights to drive decision-making, continuous improvement, and compliance. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations. Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy. Confident communicator who can collaborate effectively with suppliers, customs agents, and stakeholders across the business. Proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to identify risks and take ownership of resolving them. Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex customs and supply chain issues. Resilient and adaptable when dealing with changing priorities, legislation, and business requirements. Process and continuous improvement minded, always looking for opportunities to improve efficiency, compliance, and service. Able to work independently using initiative while also contributing effectively within a team environment. External stakeholder relationship building/ management.Retail/ Supply Chain/ Logistics experience.An understanding of customs processes and requirements from either a logistics, buying or finance background. Experience in a busy, deadline driven environment.Track record of rolling out new policies and procedural initiatives.Highly focused and accurate with a meticulous eye for detail.Great team player who works collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.Excellent verbal, written communication and administration skills.Confident using Microsoft Offices packages (incl. Experience as a Customs Clerk or similar.Experience working with customs data and knowledge of customs legislation.Knowledge of Supply Chain systems (TMS/WMS/Portals etc.) SAP experience.Previous background within operational environments. What You’ll get in Return
