Out-of-School Time (OST) High School Student Internship (PreK and 21C), INTERNAL SPS Students only, Salem Public Schools [SY 2026-2027] School Year 2026–2027 Applicant Eligibility: Internal Salem Public Schools (SPS) High School Students ONLY Pay Rate: $16.00/hour Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years of age by the start of the program Apply Here: Application Form Program Overview & Structure Salem Public Schools is seeking motivated high school students interested in pursuing careers in education, early childhood development, and youth leadership. As an OST Intern, you will gain hands-on classroom experience, build professional skills, and serve as a valued mentor to younger students in the Salem community. Schedule & Commitment OST Internships begin in October and run on 10-week cycles: Fall Cycle: October – December Winter Cycle: January – March Spring Cycle: April – June

• Interns MUST commit to a set schedule of at least 2 days/ week (4–12 hrs/ week)

• Interns MUST fully participate in monthly professional development sessions

• Additional requirements include: completing all required SPS new hire paperwork prior to start, attending an internship program orientation and/or pre-internship walkthrough, engaging in weekly supervisor check-ins.

Available OST Internship Tracks: Track 1: Pre-K After-School Program Intern Ideal for students interested in Early Childhood Education. Interns assist program staff with daily after-school routines, free play, snack time, and student supervision. Key Responsibilities: Pre-K interns are responsible for

• Design and facilitate a 30-minute activity with students at least once a week (e.g., arts & crafts, yoga/physical activities, music/dance, or social-emotional learning games)

• Support with program snack which includes: retrieving daily snack, completing daily snack monitoring & tracking, and supervising students while eating

• Engage with students during choice blocks and support students in navigating peer conflict or challenges.

Track 2: 21st CCLC High School Intern (3rd–8th grade) Ideal for students interested in Elementary or Middle School Education . Interns provide academic enrichment and classroom support for students across four 21st Century after school sites . Key Responsibilities: Assist site coordinators with program routines which include:

• engage with students during choice blocks, and support students in navigating peer conflict or challenges

• support teachers and or partners in facilitating enrichment activities

• Lead program transitions and daily program circles with small groups

• Support as bus monitor on the program bus home (optional)
