QUINCY HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH – UNIFIED SPORTS Supervisor: Athletic Director Salary Range: QAA Salary Schedule Location/Assignment: Quincy High School Conditions of Work: Seasonal SUMMARY: The Unified Sports Head Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and managing an inclusive interscholastic athletic program that pairs students with intellectual disabilities (Unified Athletes) and students without intellectual disabilities (Unified Partners) on the same team. The Head Coach provides structured instruction in fundamental skills, meaningful sportsmanship, team strategy, and conditioning while cultivating an equitable, socially inclusive school culture. The position emphasizes meaningful involvement for all participants, fostering peer connections, representing Quincy High School with integrity, and breaking down social barriers through the power of sports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Demonstrates knowledge of all athletic policies and codes approved by the Quincy School District regarding Administrative, Student, Equipment, Facilities, and Program duties.

• Demonstrates knowledge of the WIAA Handbook, Special Olympics Washington Unified Sports guidelines, and UCS (Unified Champion Schools) regulations regarding eligibility, certification, and sport modifications.

• Implements the core principle of Meaningful Involvement, ensuring every athlete and partner has genuine, impactful roles on the court/field during training and competition.

• Plans, organizes, and conducts safe, differentiated, and engaging practices tailored to a diverse spectrum of abilities and learning styles.

• Provides instruction in sport-specific fundamentals, game rules, teamwork, and conditioning, adapting drills to ensure access and growth for all participants.

• Recruits and retains both Unified Athletes and Unified Partners to maintain balanced and competitive rosters.

• Supervises student-athletes and partners before, during, and after practices, contests, and team travel, providing support for behavioral, sensory, and medical needs alongside designated support staff or paras when applicable.

• Collaborates with Special Education teachers, case managers, paraprofessionals, and families to understand accommodation plans, communication devices, or specialized support needed for athlete success.

• Promotes sportsmanship, whole-school inclusion, empathy, mutual respect, leadership, and positive team culture.

• Supervises assistant coaches, student volunteers, and peer mentors to ensure alignment with district expectations, inclusive philosophies, and safety standards.

• Maintains discipline consistent with district policy, promoting a positive, supportive climate across the athletic department and broader school community.

• Ensures strict compliance with concussion protocols, injury reporting procedures, and return-to-play guidelines.

• Maintains accurate inventory of uniforms and adaptive/standard equipment; assists with responsible management of program budgets.

• Utilizes district-approved communication platforms to communicate clearly and proactively with students, parents/guardians, general education and special education staff, and the community.

• Engages in professional growth by attending Special Olympics/WIAA Unified coaching clinics, required certifications, and inclusion-focused professional development.

• Ensures compliance with Title IX, Section 504/ADA regulations, equity standards, and district non-discrimination policies.

• Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.

• Must meet WIAA age requirements (minimum 21 years of age for Head Coach).

• Prior experience working, coaching, or volunteering with individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities (preferred).

• Demonstrated knowledge of the specific sport, inclusive athletic models, and the ability to adapt instructional techniques to varied ability levels.

• Demonstrated leadership, patience, organizational skill, and proactive problem-solving abilities.

• Valid current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain prior to season start).

• Completion of required WIAA coaching education, concussion training, and Special Olympics / NFHS Coaching Unified Sports training prior to season start.

• Ability to supervise assistant coaches, student leaders, and community volunteers effectively.

• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate compassionately and clearly with students of all neurodiverse and physical backgrounds, parents, support staff, and game officials.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student records and special education documentation (FERPA/HIPAA compliance).

• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies, district policies, and legal requirements.

• Ability to meet punctuality and attendance expectations.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
