POSITION DESCRIPTION Benefits Specialist Title: Benefits Specialist Reports to: Director of Human Resources Supervises: None Term of Employment: 12 Month Salary: Grade 68 FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt Qualifications:
• Associate's Degree preferred
• Graduation from high school and any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Purpose: To coordinate employee benefits programs Responsibilities:
• Maintains all necessary employment forms for newly hired personnel.
• Meets with all new hires to complete paperwork for hiring and review of benefits offered by the school system.
• Maintains all employment and benefit forms in order for employees to make changes as needed.
• Files all changes in benefit coverages, reviews monthly reports, and processes payments to vendors as necessary.
• Maintains and educates employees on retirement savings accounts (401K, 403B, 457B)
• Conducts Homeland Security checks on all employees.
• Serves as district administrator of NCID and UID accounts.
• Serves as district administrator for ACA.
• Serves as district administrator for Workers Compensation, COBRA, and disability claims.
• Serves as district administrator for all insurance policies.
• Assists payroll department in tracking payroll deductions, new hire information and leave balances.
• Maintains employee leave balance information for leaves of absences.
• Provides leadership for the Volunteer Shared Leave Committee.
• Serves as district contact for all retirees and provides individual assistance to employees in filing for retirement.
• Communicates updated NC information to retirees.
• Creates and maintains employee identification badges.
• Assists Personnel Director with staff recognition programs.
• Meets with employees in need of specialized background checks/fingerprinting for certain roles.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
• Knowledge of general office practices.
• Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting practices.
• Ability to operate standard office machines.
• Ability to use correct grammar, spelling, and mechanics in writing reports.
• Ability to enter data on a computer system.
• Ability to compare information accurately.
• Ability to use basic computer software programs and learn the use of more complex software.
• Knowledge of purchasing and selection practices.
Training and Experience:
• High School Diploma and two years of employment in an administrative office or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
• Training or experience in the use of Microsoft Office Products preferred.
