Muhlenberg County High School is seeking a school counselor. We are searching someone who is positive and eager to work with high school students. The applicant must have the proper certification. Contract: 230 days Roles and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Keeps the Principal fully informed of any activities and/or problems concerning the school counseling program
• Serves as an advocate for all students
• Provides mental health services to students
• Has knowledge of how to screen and monitor interventions for students
• Provides for all students the opportunity to see a counselor and avails himself/herself of his/her services
• Administers and helps coordinate various mandated and other testing programs and assessment tools
• Promotes a positive, non-threatening school environment which actively stimulates the involvement of all stakeholders
• Maintains open communication with students, staff, parents, and community
• Arranges and conducts parent conferences involving the parents, the student and any appropriate teachers
• Serves as a referral agent to various state and local agencies; aids in the referrals to in-school programs
• Assists with SEL implementation and conducts classroom visits
• Enrolls new students in classes
• Maintains and updates individual student records
• Assists and supports students in meeting their post-secondary goals
• Assists with the identification of Gifted and Talented students
• Requests assistance for students needing clothing, eye glasses, etc
• Completes grade inquiries and monitoring on a regular basis
• Provides individual counseling for personal problems, career related issues, tests interpretation, family problems, crisis situations, credit updates, behavior problems, and classroom problems
• Assists in building the master schedule
• Attends district and regional counselor's meetings when scheduled
• Serves as school registrar; assists with new student orientation; upgrades cumulative folders and establishes, maintains, and safe keeps student permanent recording of grades for students in grades 9-12
• Registers all students for the next school year; helps students select courses that will support desired career goals and diploma levels
• Sends and receives requests for transcripts and other school records
• Writes letters of recommendation and aids seniors in college admission and scholarship application process
• Maintains accurate student transcripts
• Closes all records on graduation seniors, upgrades files, and makes sure a permanent copy of the graduates' records are sent to the Superintendent's office
• Serves as ARC Chairperson when appointed by the Principal or Director of Student Services
• Performs related duties and other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent
