The Bensalem Township School District is hiring a Long-Term Substitute Social Worker for the remainder of the 2026-2027 school year. This position is a grant funded position. REPORTS TO: The Social Worker is directly responsible to the Assistant to the Superintendent for Special Services. POSITION GOAL: Supplements the services of psychologists, guidance counselors, nurses, and the home and school visitor by obtaining all information necessary to devise an overall plan for each child referred. • Possess appropriate level of education and experience to perform the essential duties relative to the position.
• Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, safety manuals, and other job-related publications. Generates routine reports and correspondence pertinent to the essential job duties.
• Ability to communicate and to demonstrate interpersonal skills effectively in dealing with students, staff, parents, community members, and educational agencies as related to performance of the duties of the position.
• Ability to perform mathematical operations and to apply mechanical skills and technical skills to accomplish the essential duties of the position.
• Ability to interpret and to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to perform routine tasks cooperatively and to adjust to interruptions, variables, or changes in standardized situations.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's Degree in social work
• Certification as Home and School Visitor preferred
• Experience in public school work preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Aids referred students who have difficulty in adapting themselves to school life, especially where individualized professional help is indicated.
• Works with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and effects solutions.
• Helps analyze medical, psychiatric, and other examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures.
• Attempts to alter attitudes of parents and teachers that may have caused or aggravated problems.
• Serves as liaison between school and community resources, such as family service agencies, child guidance clinics, protective services, doctors, clergy members, police and probation officers.
• Serves as consultant to school personnel in respect to students or situations which are not referred to him/her for direct service.
• Serves on the District Mental Health Team. Assists with implementation of support services in the event of a School District crisis.
• Maintains constant contact with the Home and School Visitor in order that attendance problems might be completely understood.
• Serves as a consultant for truancy hearings, Daytime Curfew hearings and provides follow-up services as ordered/recommended by the courts.
• Gains knowledge of community agencies and their services to children, families and schools.
• Develops rapport with juvenile authorities in order that students and parents might better solve their mutual problems.
• Performs other related duties as may be assigned or necessary for an efficient operation.
• Serves on Building a Better Bensalem Today (community coalition).
• Assists in gathering data/writing grants.
• Participates on IST/SAP teams as necessary.
• Provides training to staff as necessary.
• Represents School District on various community organizations, task, forces, and committees.
