Location: Prince of Peace Catholic School, Plano, Texas Position Summary: School Nurse (2026-2027) The School Nurse fulfills the mission of Prince of Peace Catholic School by promoting the health, safety, and well-being of students from preschool through 8th grade. The School Nurse provides direct nursing care, manages student health needs, supports disease prevention and emergency preparedness, and helps students remain ready to learn. This position collaborates with families, faculty, staff, administrators, health-care providers, and diocesan personnel; reports to and is evaluated by the principal. Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school

• Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church

• Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Diocese of Dallas, as well as applicable laws and professional nursing standards

• Maintains student privacy and confidentiality in accordance with school policy and applicable law

• Provides developmentally appropriate nursing assessment, first aid, emergency care, and health support for students from preschool through 8th grade and for employees as needed

• Determines the appropriate disposition of students who are ill or injured, communicates with parents or guardians, and arranges emergency medical services when warranted

• Administers and documents prescription and nonprescription medications and nursing treatments in accordance with physician orders, parent authorization, school policy, and applicable law

• Develops, maintains, and communicates individualized health-care plans and emergency action plans for students with chronic, complex, or potentially life-threatening conditions

• Coordinates care for students with allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures, and other health conditions, including staff education and readiness to respond

• Maintains current, accurate, and secure student health records, medication records, incident documentation, and related reports

• Monitors immunization records and other health requirements; communicates deficiencies to families; and ensures compliance with school, diocesan, and state requirements

• Coordinates or conducts required health screenings and referrals, including vision, hearing, spinal, and other screenings applicable to enrolled grade levels

• Monitors communicable illnesses and patterns of student absence; implements exclusion, return-to-school, and notification protocols in consultation with administration and public health authorities

• Maintains the health office, emergency medications, first-aid supplies, automated external defibrillators, and emergency equipment; monitors expiration dates and recommends needed purchases

• Assists in developing and practicing school emergency procedures and provides medical support during drills, emergencies, field trips, athletic events, and school activities as assigned

• Trains and supports designated staff members in first aid, CPR/AED use, medication procedures, emergency action plans, and other health-related responsibilities within the nurse's scope of practice

• Collaborates with teachers, counselors, student support personnel, and administrators when a student's health needs affect attendance, access, behavior, or learning

• Provides age-appropriate health education and wellness guidance to students, staff, and families as requested

• Completes required diocesan and school reports, trainings, screenings, audits, and compliance activities accurately and by established deadlines

• Serves as the primary school liaison with families, health-care providers, pharmacies, public health agencies, and diocesan personnel regarding student health matters

• Maintains professional boundaries and demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, compassion, organization, and discretion

• Maintains required licensure and certifications and pursues continuing professional development relevant to school and pediatric nursing

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and a commitment to supporting the school's Catholic identity

• Knowledge of professional nursing practice, child and adolescent development, common pediatric conditions, medication administration, infection prevention, and emergency response

• Ability to assess symptoms and injuries, establish priorities, make sound independent decisions, and respond calmly and effectively during emergencies

• Ability to recognize the distinct developmental and health needs of preschool, elementary, and middle school students

• Strong organization, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills

• Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and a caring presence

• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, employees, administrators, health-care providers, and community agencies

• Skill in job-appropriate technology, electronic health records, and standard office applications

• Ability to lift or assist an ill or injured child, respond quickly throughout the campus, and perform the physical functions required for first aid, CPR, and emergency care, with or without reasonable accommodation

Reporting to the principal, the School Nurse should:

• Support the school's mission and participate actively in the life and culture of the school and parish community

• Represent Prince of Peace Catholic School at school, diocesan, and community functions as needed

• Ensure compliance with the policies and procedures of Prince of Peace Catholic School and the Diocese of Dallas

• Recommend and develop procedures, education, and programs that strengthen student health, safety, and emergency preparedness

• Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned by the president or principal

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policies of the Diocese of Dallas and Prince of Peace Catholic School. Education and Experience:

• Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred

• Current CPR/AED certification for health-care providers

• Current certification to conduct required school health screenings, or the ability to obtain certification within the school's established timeframe

• Minimum of three years of professional nursing experience preferred; pediatric, school, community health, emergency, or family practice experience strongly preferred

• School nurse certification or Nationally Certified School Nurse credential preferred

• Must meet Safe Environment, background screening, continuing education, and any other requirements established by Prince of Peace Catholic School, the Diocese of Dallas, and applicable law
