ROTC Instructor Location: Shadow Mountain High School FTE: 1.0 Non Interim Position Start Date: Immediately Purpose Statement The job of Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) manages the entire AFJROTC program. Although they spend much of their time in the classroom, enrollment, fundraising, community relations, administrative, student counseling, leadership mentoring and extensive extra and co-curricular activities are the fundamental part of the job. Link for Instructor Hiring Process Essential Functions Community relations, liaison with other Air Force and civilian agencies in the aerospace field Unit supply, funds administration, and other administrative functions Career, performance, behavioral, leadership, character and academic counseling and mentoring Enrollment activities Extensive extracurricular and co-curricular programs, including, but not limited to: Military ball Field Training Exercise (FTX) Summer Leaderships School (SLS) Inter-JROTC sports competition Cadet newspaper Drill team, and color guard practices and competitions Parades, flag raising, retreat ceremonies Presentation of awards Fund raising activities for the unit or charitable institutions Clubs to include, but not limited to: Rocket Club, Remote control aircraft club, orienteering club, Physical, training (PT) club Classroom in Action (CIA) trips to include but not limited 9: Pima Air and Space Museum Luke AFB KC-135 Flight ASU Earth and Space Science Institute, Marston Space Center Classroom teacher five periods per day, to include but not limited to the following courses: Frontiers of Aviation History Science of Flight Space Exploration World Cultural Studies Survival Physical Training (PT) Wear of the appropriate Air Force uniform is mandatory while performing SASI duties The job of SASI is not as structured as most Air Force vocations. Although the Air Force provides some guidance for managing the program, self-direction, initiative, and self-reliance are essential traits of the SASI. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying district, state and federal policies and regulations; operating standard office equipment. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with detailed information. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Experience: Job related experience is desired.
