JOB TITLE: Plumber Report Identification Code: edmplu Job Purpose Statement: The job of "Plumber" is done for the purpose of performing skilled, journey-level work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the District’s plumbing, water distribution, gas piping and wastewater disposal systems across all district facilities. This role is vital in ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe learning environment for students, staff and the public by maintaining strict compliance with state and local plumbing codes and regulations. Essential Job Functions: •Performs installation, inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of commercial plumbing fixtures and systems for the purpose of maintaining safe, sanitary, functional, and reliable plumbing services throughout district facilities, including toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, sumps, circulatory pumps, and related equipment. •Repairs, replaces, cuts, threads, bends, and assembles water, gas, sewer, lateral, and rainwater piping systems for the purpose of maintaining reliable facility infrastructure, preventing leaks and system failures, and ensuring proper water distribution, gas service, wastewater disposal, and drainage. •Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on plumbing and related utility systems for the purpose of preventing equipment failures, maintaining system efficiency, extending the service life of components, and ensuring safe and reliable operation, including flushing lines, clearing clogged drains, servicing valves, color-coding in-ground utility boxes, and winterizing systems to prevent frozen pipes. •Interprets blueprints, schematics, mechanical drawings, plumbing layouts, and related technical documents and utilizes specialized diagnostic and testing equipment for the purpose of planning installations, locating leaks and system deficiencies, troubleshooting plumbing problems, verifying system performance, and ensuring compliance with applicable city, state, and local plumbing codes and health regulations. •Documents, tracks, and closes out work orders and maintains plumbing-related records using the district’s asset management system for the purpose of maintaining accurate service histories, monitoring workflow, supporting facility maintenance operations, estimating material requirements and project costs, and ensuring necessary parts and supplies are available. •Operates hand tools, power tools, specialized plumbing equipment, heavy equipment, and district-assigned vehicles for the purpose of safely and efficiently performing plumbing installation, maintenance, repair, excavation, material handling, and facility support activities. •Collaborates with other maintenance trades and responds to after-hours plumbing emergencies as assigned for the purpose of supporting district-wide facility maintenance projects, resolving urgent plumbing and water-related problems, minimizing service disruptions, and maintaining safe, sanitary, and functional learning and working environments. •Maintains compliance with applicable plumbing codes, health regulations, safety requirements, and district procedures for the purpose of ensuring plumbing installations, repairs, maintenance activities, and related work are completed safely, properly, and in accordance with regulatory and district standards. Other Job Functions: * Collaborates with other maintenance trades and responds to after-hours plumbing emergencies as assigned for the purpose of supporting district-wide facility maintenance projects, resolving urgent plumbing and water-related problems, minimizing service disruptions, and maintaining safe, sanitary, and functional learning and working environments. *Attends training and/or classes for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting credential requirements. Job Requirements - Qualifications: *Experience Required: Possess 3-5 years of professional plumbing experience with preferred experience in commercial or institutional settings (e.g., schools, hospitals, municipal buildings). *Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills to: operate and maintain tools and equipment relating to plumbing and irrigation systems; read and interpret plans, blueprints and/or schematics; perform algebra and geometry; perform specialized/technical tasks; administer appropriate assessment instruments and techniques; use English in both written and verbal form to communicate effectively with staff, contractors and/or the public; and plan and manage projects. Knowledge of: methods and use of materials, tools and equipment used in plumbing trade; appropriate building codes, safety practices, systems components; and basic computer operations. Abilities to: adhere to safe work practices; apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; adjust to flexible work assignments; work accurately with minimal supervision; work under time constraints; interact with persons of different age groups and cultural/educational backgrounds; work cooperatively with others and exchange information; make independent decisions to respond to numerous requests, deadlines, and to prioritize assignments and adhere to schedules; ability to learn the procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties. Significant physical abilities include physical ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 100 pounds; continuously walk, stand, climb, stoop, bend, kneel, reaching in all directions; finger dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power driven tools and equipment commonly used in the plumbing field; maintaining balance working off the ground at using ladders, scaffolds, and/or mechanical lifts; climb ladders and work in high, precarious places; sit and/or stand for extended periods of time; work outside, exposed to heat and cold; see and read with our without vision aids; climb stairs; hear and speak to exchange information; travel to a variety of locations within a reasonable time frame; operate office, multimedia, and computer equipment. talking/hearing conversations and other sounds, near/far visual acuity/ depth perception/visual accommodation, exposure to temperature changes/weather conditions, regular exposure to fumes, dust, dirt, oil and grease, able to work in confined areas; work around and with machinery having moving parts. *Training Required: Proficiency in trade *Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program. *Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability. Must be licensed as a journeyman plumber or Master Plumber in the State of Idaho; valid Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification preferred.
