Job Description: IT Director Location: Districtwide Reports To: Superintendent Position Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Salary: ADMIN III FLSA Status: Exempt Position Summary The IT Director provides leadership and oversight for Macon County Schools' technology program, including hardware, software, networking, communications, and technical support. This position plans, implements, and evaluates technology initiatives aligned with district priorities and state guidelines. The IT Director collaborates with school and district staff to support the effective integration of technology into instruction and manages technology infrastructure, support services, and procurement to enhance teaching, learning, and district operations. Key Responsibilities Technology Leadership and Planning

• Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district's technology program.

• Establish long-term technology goals aligned with district priorities and instructional needs.

• Assess technology needs and recommend improvements to systems, equipment, and services.

• Evaluate data and technology systems to determine functionality and effectiveness.

• Participate on the District Leadership Team and other collaborative teams.

• Stay informed about current trends, tools, and best practices in educational technology.

Infrastructure and Technical Support

• Oversee district hardware, software, networking infrastructure, and communication systems.

• Coordinate network installations, cabling, and related technical requirements.

• Provide and supervise technical support for school and district staff.

• Monitor technology systems and coordinate solutions to technical problems.

• Respond effectively to technology emergencies and adapt to high-pressure situations.

Instructional Technology and Collaboration

• Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and district staff to support technology integration into teaching and learning.

• Support the use of technology consistent with instructional technology standards.

• Communicate technical information and procedures clearly to users with varying levels of technology experience.

• Recommend tools and resources that support instructional and operational needs.

• Personnel, Procurement, and Documentation

• Supervise and evaluate technology department personnel.

• Manage technology procurement and support applicable requests for proposals (RFPs), upset-bid procedures, and E-Rate processes.

• Prepare and maintain accurate reports, correspondence, policies, and technical documents.

• Record and communicate information accurately and explain procedures effectively.

• Support compliance with applicable local, state, and federal technology policies and ethical guidelines.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

• Four-year degree or equivalent work experience.

• Five years of experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of Apple, Google, and Microsoft platforms, computer hardware, software applications, and networking infrastructure.

• Familiarity with RFPs, upset-bid procedures, and E-Rate processes.

• Understanding of instructional technology standards and effective classroom integration.

• Knowledge of network systems, communication installations, cabling, and related requirements.

• Knowledge of current educational technology trends and best practices.

• Knowledge of applicable technology policies and ethical guidelines.

• Ability to lead strategic planning, develop long-term goals, and evaluate technology programs.

• Ability to assess technology needs, recommend improvements, and support users.

• Ability to apply logical and analytical thinking to solve problems and interpret technical information.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across all levels of the school system.

• Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to emergency situations.

• Physical Requirements

• Ability to operate computers, copiers, and related office and technology equipment.

• Ability to drive a motor vehicle to support districtwide responsibilities.

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment Work is performed in district offices, school settings, and technology work areas throughout Macon County Schools. Responsibilities require collaboration with school and district personnel and responsiveness to technology issues and emergencies.
