About this role

JOB GOAL To oversee the operations of the school system in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services to students and families with the available resources. The Deputy Director of Operations provides leadership, supervision, coordination, and accountability for district operational departments, capital and building projects, vendor contracts, safety compliance, and long-range operational planning. QUALIFICATIONS Holds, at a minimum, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management, Operations, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Public Administration, Education Administration, or leadership experience in another related field. The qualified applicant must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in supervision or a leadership role. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organizational, budgeting, contract review, project management, and problem-solving skills; the ability to read, interpret, and explain building and construction documents; knowledge of school district operations, safety regulations, vendor management, and capital project oversight; and meet all health and physical requirements. REPORTS TO Director of Schools SCHEDULE 260 Day (12 months) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Serves as a member of the district leadership team and provides support to the Director of Schools regarding district operations, facilities, capital projects, and operational planning.

• Supervises the maintenance department, operations, capital and building projects, information technology, food service, custodial, transportation and fleet management departments, and facilities.

• Reviews construction, maintenance, transportation, technology, food service, custodial, safety, fleet management, and other operational contracts between vendors and the Board of Education.

• Provides monthly reports to the Board of Education regarding capital projects, building projects, and operational departments of the district.

• Oversees all phases of project design, including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding and negotiation, and construction administration.

• Collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, consultants, county officials, and district personnel to ensure district scope of work, priorities, timelines, and interests are addressed.

• Assists with long-range facility planning, capital improvement planning, maintenance priorities, operational budgets, and resource allocation.

• Monitors capital projects, building improvements, maintenance projects, and operational initiatives to ensure work is completed in a timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner.

• Attends government meetings, Board meetings, committee meetings, and other public meetings as needed to provide information, make presentations, and respond to questions regarding the needs and projects of Wilson County Schools.

• Reads, interprets, and explains building plans, construction documents, specifications, project schedules, contracts, proposals, and related documents.

• Supervises compliance with regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, TOSHA, and other applicable safety laws, regulations, and district procedures.

• Coordinates with district and school leaders to identify operational needs, address facility and safety concerns, and support effective day-to-day operations across the school system.

• Provides oversight and direction for emergency preparedness, safety-related operational procedures, facility response, and coordination with appropriate internal and external agencies.

• Assists in the development, review, and implementation of district procedures related to operations, maintenance, transportation, facilities, technology, custodial services, food service, safety, and fleet management.

• Evaluates operational processes and recommends improvements to increase efficiency, accountability, communication, and cost effectiveness.

• Supervises, evaluates, and supports assigned department leaders and operational staff.

• Works collaboratively with Finance, Human Resources, Student Services, Technology, and other district departments to support districtwide goals and ensure operational alignment.

• Prepares reports, presentations, documents, recommendations, and other written materials related to district operations and capital projects.

• Ensures that operational departments provide timely, responsive, and professional support to schools, students, staff, families, and the community.

• Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment when handling sensitive district, employee, vendor, safety, and project-related information.

• Represents the school district professionally and positively.

• Attends work regularly and on time. This job requires on-site attendance, including face-to-face interaction at schools, worksites, construction sites, meetings, and district facilities.

• Complies with Board policies, administrative procedures, safety expectations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

• Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Director of Schools.

This is a 260-day (12 month) assignment with insurance and retirement benefits. Salary based on Miscellaneous Salaries schedule as listed on the district website. Other benefits include:
