St. John Bosco Catholic School School Assistant — Job Description Position: School Assistant Reports To: Principal and Assistant Principal School Under the general supervision of the Principal, Assistant Principal and Preschool Director, the School Assistant supports the daily operations of St. John Bosco Catholic School by assisting with student supervision, academic support, campus safety, and general school maintenance projects. The School Assistant plays an important role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, organized, and faith-filled learning environment. This position requires flexibility, initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and a willingness to assist students, faculty, and staff in a variety of capacities throughout the school day. The School Assistant is expected to uphold the mission and Catholic identity of St. John Bosco Catholic School while modeling the values of respect, responsibility, service, and Christian leadership. Essential Job Functions: Student Supervision and Campus Safety
• Supervise students during assigned lunch and recess periods, ensuring a safe, positive, and respectful environment.
• Actively monitor student interactions and encourage appropriate behavior, good sportsmanship, and conflict resolution.
• Assist students during lunch and recess as needed, including addressing minor concerns and communicating behavioral or safety issues to school administration.
• Assist with afternoon carpool duties, including supervising students, maintaining orderly dismissal procedures, and ensuring students are safely released to authorized individuals.
• Support the implementation of school safety procedures and assist with emergency drills and other campus supervision responsibilities.
Academic and Instructional Support
• Provide assistance to individual students or small groups with classroom assignments, academic activities, and instructional tasks as directed by classroom teachers or administration.
• Assist students with testing, including providing appropriate supervision, reading directions, and implementing approved testing accommodations as directed.
• Support students who require additional academic assistance while encouraging independence, confidence, and responsibility for their learning.
• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and the Student Support Team to assist students with diverse learning needs.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student academic performance, assessments, and individual learning needs.
Campus Maintenance and Operational Support
• Assist the school's maintenance personnel with assigned campus projects and general upkeep as needed.
• Support classroom setup, furniture arrangements, and preparation for schoolwide activities and special events.
• Assist with organizing, moving, and distributing classroom materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Help maintain clean, safe, organized, and welcoming indoor and outdoor campus spaces.
• Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or facility needs to the appropriate school personnel.
• Perform additional operational tasks as assigned by school administration.
Professional Responsibilities
• Establish positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and parish personnel.
• Model appropriate Christian behavior and uphold the mission, values, and Catholic identity of St. John Bosco Catholic School.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with school personnel and refer parent questions or concerns regarding students to the appropriate teacher or administrator.
• Maintain confidentiality concerning students, families, personnel, and school operations.
• Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, initiative, and flexibility in fulfilling daily responsibilities.
• Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal.

• Effectively supervise students in classroom, recreational, and outdoor settings.

• Work collaboratively with teachers, administration, and maintenance personnel.
• Demonstrate sound judgment, patience, flexibility, and initiative.
• Manage multiple responsibilities and transition effectively between assigned duties.
• Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned responsibilities safely, including outdoor supervision and assisting with campus projects.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Previous experience working with school-age children is preferred.
• Must complete all required Diocese of Phoenix Safe Environment training, fingerprinting, and applicable background screening.
• Must sign and adhere to the Diocese of Phoenix Code of Ethics.
• Must be willing to support and uphold the teachings, mission, and values of the Catholic Church.
