About this role

Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in Secondary Englis or related field. Pre-Requisite: Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Reports to: Dean of Instruction, Grd K-12 Primary Purpose: The K–12 Substitute Instructor will fulfill assigned duties across elementary, middle, and high school grade levels and subject areas, creating an engaging classroom culture aimed at preparing students for real-world experiences. The role involves motivating and inspiring students while supporting learning across subject areas and promoting critical thinking skills. The K–12 Substitute Instructor will employ various instructional strategies to encourage student participation and promote a passion for learning. The Substitute Instructor will follow established lesson plans and curriculum while providing meaningful and relevant learning experiences for students. Responsibilities include maintaining appropriate classroom management, supervising students, enforcing school policies and procedures, and maintaining a safe and productive learning environment. This position includes collaboration with teachers, instructional staff, and administration to support continuity of instruction and student learning. • Prepare coursework to teach students required assigned classes in accordance with Arizona Standards.

• Deliver effective and differentiated instruction, utilizing various teaching methodologies and technologies to cater to diverse learning styles and needs.

• Create a classroom environment that promotes student participation, critical thinking, and a love for learning.

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that integrate STEM principles with ELA content.

• Design and facilitate interdisciplinary projects that require students to apply they're knowledge to the possibilities in STEM fields to solve problems and explore complex issues.

• Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including projects, presentations, and assessments, providing constructive feedback to promote growth.

• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and collaboration.

• Stay updated on current research, best practices, and emerging trends in STEM education to continuously improve teaching practices.

• Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and promote a school-wide culture of STEM as it relates to grade level assignment.

• Help students connect classroom learning to real-world situations and issues, fostering an understanding of the relevance of STEM in their lives.

• Keep accurate attendance and grade records as requested in accordance with school policies, and administrative regulations.

• Communicate regularly with colleagues regarding classroom instruction and the needs of students.

• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.

• Know and effectively communicate SGA's educational philosophy and mission.

• Create, and manage a responsive learning environment that enables students to feel safe, to be creative, and to develop to their full potential.

• Implement procedures, systems and routines that provide structure for students.

• Ensure smooth operation of all classroom's instructional functions without exceptions.

• Organize and supervise approved field trips.

• Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and enhance the overall educational experience, including but not limited to STEM coordinated projects.

• Conduct parent teacher conferences.

• Establish high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior.

• Assist in the supervision of student breaks.

• Maintain up-to-date records of assessment, planning, reports, conferences, and communication with parents.

• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.

• All other duties & responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Instruction.

• Previous teaching experience in Instructional Field.

• Skills: Strong communication, organization, and time management skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

• Technology: Familiarity with educational technology and software.

• May be involved in extracurricular activities, such as coaching sports teams or advising clubs.

• Complete required paperwork related to student progress, assessments, and other administrative tasks.

• All other duties & responsibilities assigned by the Dean of Instruction.

• Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and classroom records as assigned and in accordance with school policies and administrative regulations.

• Communicate with colleagues regarding classroom instruction, student progress, behavior, and student needs as appropriate.

• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops as required or assigned.

• Assist with or supervise approved field trips and school activities as assigned.

• Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary activities and enhance the overall educational experience, including STEM-coordinated projects.

• Participate in parent-teacher conferences as required or assigned.

• Establish and maintain high expectations for academic success and appropriate classroom behavior.

• Assist in the supervision of student breaks, transitions, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned student activities.

• Maintain required records related to student assessments, instruction, reports, conferences, and parent communication as assigned.

• Complete required paperwork related to student progress, assessments, and other assigned administrative responsibilities.

• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development and training.

• May participate in extracurricular activities, including coaching sports teams or advising clubs, as assigned and appropriate.

• Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Instruction.

Requirements:

• Previous teaching, substitute teaching, or classroom experience preferred.

• Strong communication, organizational, classroom management, and time-management skills.

• Ability to work effectively and professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.

• Ability to provide instruction and supervision across elementary, middle, and high school grade levels and assigned subject areas.

• Ability to follow established lesson plans, curriculum, school policies, procedures, and administrative directives.

• Familiarity with educational technology, instructional software, and technology used to support classroom instruction.

• Ability and willingness to support STEM-related instruction and interdisciplinary learning activities as assigned.
