About this role
Applicants should supply suitable character references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting application form. This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Participants will gain practical experience in a charity retail environment and an understanding of how charity shops support the work of Sue Ryder Foundation Ireland. During the placement the participant will learn and gain experience in: • Retail and customer service skills • Communication and interpersonal skills • Cash handling and use of computerised till systems • Stock management and retail merchandising • Health and safety and safe working practices • Teamwork and working with colleagues and volunteers • Time management, organisation and reliability • Developing confidence when communicating with customers and the public • Understanding workplace expectations and professional conduct • Developing good work habits and transferable skills that can support future employment • Understanding of the role of Sue Ryder charity shops and how fundraising supports independent living for older people in our community.. This is a training and work experience opportunity, no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. The participant will receive formal/informal training and mentoring in the following: Formal/Accredited Training: • WPEP QQI Work Experience Module • Till, cash handling and payment systems • Customer service and retail skills • Health and safety and other relevant training provided through the programme Informal/On-the-Job Training: • Preparing, pricing and displaying stock • Merchandising and window displays • Customer care and communication skills • Time management • Teamwork • Adaptability and problem solving • Stock control • General charity shop operations
