Job summary
This is a 12-month fixed-term/secondment opportunity based within the Microbiology team in York. You will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operational management with our existing Chief Biomedical Scientist team whilst managing a range of workforce, quality, and service improvements.
Responsibilities will include managing operational priorities, supporting workforce and employee relations, engaging with teams across our network, coordinating projects and supporting the delivery of key quality indicators and performance standards.
You will work closely with colleagues across the wider SHYPS Microbiology and Virology network to support the alignment of practices and processes across our sites. There will be some travel to Hull Microbiology especially during the first three months to workalongside colleagues, gain an understanding of established network processes, and support the delivery of a consistent approach to service management.
This will include understanding how services monitor and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs), meet external quality assurance (EQA) requirements, identify and implement serviceimprovements, and deliver high-quality patient focused laboratory services across our network.
Main duties of the job
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to further develop their leadership, project management, workforce, and operational management experience while contributing to the ongoing improvement and development of Microbiology services across SHYPS.
Duties will include:
Support the day-to-day operational management of the Microbiology service. Coordinate and monitor operational priorities to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and timely laboratory services. Support workforce management activities, including sickness absence management, recruitment processes, employee relations matters, and staff wellbeing initiatives. Act as a key point of contact for staff, promoting engagement, communication, and collaborative working across the Microbiology network. Coordinate service improvement projects from planning through to implementation and evaluation. Support the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of quality indicators and key performance indicators (KPIs). Work with colleagues across the SHYPS Microbiology network to align operational processes and embed consistent ways of working. This vacancy will be considered for a secondment opportunity. Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills Essential
Comprehensive experience and a minimum of 3 years experience in a senior position within the relevant discipline. Demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills
Qualifications and Experience Essential
MSc or equivalent in relevant speciality Possess a recognised management qualification e.g certificate/diploma in managing health and social care or equivalent experience.
Desirable
Experience of supervision, training and support to BMS staff for the generic and specialist portfolios and MSc/higher qualifications. Database, spreadsheet and other IT experience
