Job summary
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team at The Ridgeway Surgery in Harrow for approximately 20 hours per week.
This is an excellent opportunity to join us at an exciting time as we continue to develop our nursing service and make effective use of the skills of our Practice Nurses, HCAs, pharmacists and wider clinical team.
The successful candidate will undertake a varied Practice Nurse role including immunisations, cervical screening, wound care, injections and vaccinations, long-term condition management and other treatment room work according to experience and competency.
We are particularly looking for someone who is flexible, patient-focused and enjoys working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. We value colleagues who make good use of patient contacts, support one another and contribute positively to the development of services.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide a broad range of general practice nursing services, working closely with our nursing, HCA and wider multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.
The role will include cervical screening, childhood and adult immunisations, wound care and dressings, injections, long-term condition management and other treatment room activity according to competency and experience.
The successful candidate will work flexibly within the team, making effective use of patient contacts and supporting joined-up care wherever appropriate. They will contribute to seasonal vaccination programmes, clinical quality and safety, and the continued development of our nursing service.

The Ridgeway Surgery is a friendly, well-established GP practice in Harrow, providing care to a diverse local population across our main surgery and branch site at Alexandra Avenue.
We have a large multidisciplinary team including GPs, advanced practitioners, Practice Nurses, HCAs, pharmacists and care navigation and administrative teams. We value collaborative working and aim to ensure that staff are able to use and develop their skills while providing high-quality, efficient and patient-centred care.

Job purpose
To work as part of the practice nursing and wider multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective and patient-centred nursing care to the practice population.
The postholder will undertake a broad range of Practice Nurse duties according to their experience, training and assessed competencies. They will work collaboratively with colleagues, make effective use of patient contacts and contribute to the continued development of the practice nursing service.
Main responsibilities
Practice nursing
Provide general Practice Nurse services including, according to competency:
Cervical screening and associated health promotion.Childhood immunisations in accordance with the national immunisation programme.Adult immunisations and vaccinations.Seasonal vaccination programmes including influenza and other programmes commissioned by the NHS.Wound assessment, dressings and ongoing wound care.Administration of prescribed injections and medicines in accordance with appropriate authorisation.Long-term condition reviews and monitoring within areas of competence.Diabetic monitoring and foot assessment where appropriate.Other treatment room procedures appropriate to the Practice Nurse role.Health promotion, lifestyle advice and preventative healthcare.Supporting patients to understand and manage their health conditions.The postholder will recognise the limits of their own competence and seek appropriate advice or escalate to another clinician where required.
Patient care and team working
Provide high-quality, compassionate and individualised care.Work collaboratively with Practice Nurses, HCAs, GPs, advanced practitioners, pharmacists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.Make effective use of each patient contact and, where clinically appropriate and practical, undertake additional relevant nursing interventions to support joined-up care and avoid unnecessary repeat appointments.Support colleagues and contribute flexibly to the day-to-day delivery of the nursing service.Respond appropriately to urgent clinical issues arising during nursing contacts.Communicate effectively with patients, carers and colleagues.Participate in nursing and practice meetings as required.Clinical governance and safety
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records using EMIS Web and other practice systems.Work in accordance with NMC professional standards, practice policies and relevant national guidance.Work within Patient Group Directions (PGDs), Patient Specific Directions and other appropriate medicines authorisations.Follow infection prevention and control procedures and contribute to maintaining high standards within clinical areas.Follow cold-chain and vaccine storage procedures where relevant.Ensure clinical equipment is used safely and report faults or concerns promptly.Participate in clinical audit, significant event review, quality improvement and other governance activity as appropriate.Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with information governance and data protection requirements.Follow safeguarding policies and procedures and raise concerns appropriately.Training and professional development
