FULL/PART TIME PERMANENT POSITION FOR QUALIFIED NURSING STAFF ON RIVERBANK, WORCESTER ROYAL HOSPITAL - CQC rated as GOOD. ROTATION OPPORTUNITY.

Are you a childrens nurse looking for permanent full or part time hours and the opportunity to work as part of our friendly, dynamic and innovative multi professional team where your special skills will be recognised?

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join us on our 35 bedded ward at Worcester Royal Hospital, Worcester caring for babies, children and young people with a variety of medical and surgical needs.

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated applicants who wish to deliver the highest standard of holistic care to these children and young people and their families.

In return we encourage new ideas and ways of working within a supportive environment. In addition, you will enhance and develop skills and knowledge in a wide range of clinical areas with the benefit of an established induction programme and preceptorship if needed. You will also have an excellent opportunity to rotate to the Neonatal Unit and Accidental and Emergency Department if required.

Main duties of the job

Using your clinical experience and skills you will work with your team as a named nurse to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.

Acting with compassion you will put patients at the centre of all you do.

You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers regarding their care and educate patients where there is a need.

You will communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality patient care.

You will show commitment to sustaining and developing your clinical competence and professional awareness.

You will provide supervision, support and education to unqualified staff and students.

This role will require you to work variable hours in order to fulfil the needs of the ward.

You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns.

Role Details

You will develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.

You will safeguard vulnerable children and young people.

You will participate in preceptorship programmes as appropriate and act as a facilitator / mentor / preceptor / role model to less experienced staff.

You will educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified, including information on adopting a healthier lifestyle.

You will complete patient documentation correctly. You will communicate effectively with patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team.

You will be responsible for developing and sustaining your own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with NMC requirements and to maintain a professional portfolio with evidence of reflective practice.

You will assist in the training and development of student nurses and health care assistants and complete assessors training as required.

You will contribute to research and development programmes within the ward / department.

You will contribute to the setting and monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards.

You will participate in handling complaints in accordance with Trust policy.

You will maintain a safe clean ward environment and ensure all appropriate general risk assessments are carried out within 24 hours of admission and document and plan care accordingly e.g. manual handling, pressure risks, slips trips and falls, nutrition, safeguarding.

You will show an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment.

You will assist in the assessment of staffing requirements, reporting problems to the appropriate manager.

In the absence of a more senior member of staff and as part of your development programme, with support, will be able to undertake clinical / shift management within the department.

Other Job Requirements:

You will rotate between Riverbank Childrens Ward and Paediatric Assessment Unt

Ability to undertake manual handling and movement tasks and wear appropriate protective equipment.

Prepared and able to work variable shift patterns early, late, night shifts over 7 days of the week.

Awareness of self-presentation to patients and relatives.

You may be asked to assist other departments where 0-17 year olds presents on an ad hoc basis and with support.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered nurse on sub part 1 of the professional register.

Desirable

Registered Children's Nurse. Evidence of continuing education in speciality for more experienced Band 5 nurses.

Experience Essential

Can demonstrate a specific interest in children and young peoples nursing. Will require a specific speciality related qualification/equivalent experience related to the post or willingness to work towards within 18 months of qualification.

Desirable

Experience as working on a childrens ward or paediatric assessment unit. Significant proven knowledge and experience in children and young peoples nursing.

Knowledge and Understanding Essential

NMC Code, its application to practice and requirements of it for own practice and behaviour. The 6 Cs Compassion in Practice. The NHS Constitution and our values and behaviours. Understanding of the principles of clinical effectiveness and best practice including clinical audit and research. Knowledge of patient safety initiatives, strategies and risk management.

Skills and Abilities Essential

Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills. Able to record and deal with facts, figures and information accurately. Able to follow Trust and departmental policies and procedures. Effective communicator both written and verbal. Able to problem solve and be flexible to change in demands of service. Ability to mentor and provide effective support to healthcare assistants and students. Ability to use technology as required to the role. Ability to identify and manage risk. Determination and tenacity in challenging situations. Ability to identify personal development needs.

Desirable

Significant proven knowledge and experience in speciality.
