Job summary
Solar provides specialist mental health support to children and young people (0-18 years) experiencing a range of emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties. We are recruiting to an Assistant Psychologist post within The core Team in Solar.
The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience working within psychologically informed multidisciplinary teams supporting children, young people and families with complex needs.
The role will involve supporting psychological assessment, intervention, group work, and service development activity, working closely with clinical psychologists and the wider MDT.The role offers an opportunity to gain clinical experience within Solar and the post holders may work flexibly across teams within Solar in response to service need, development opportunities and the needs of children, young people and families.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will support the delivery of psychologically informed care within Solar working alongside clinical psychologists and the wider multidisciplinary team to support children, young people and families with a range of mental health needs.
Assistant Psychologists will assist with psychological assessments, support formulation-informed interventions, contribute to group work, and help collect and record outcome measures. The role will also involve preparing clinical materials, supporting service development activities
The post will be based within Core CAMHS and the post holders will work under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist and may be expected to work flexibly across teams in response to service need. There may also be a need to work clinically in other environments such as schools or the home of the young person. We are looking for motivated, reflective psychology graduates with strong communication and organisational skills, experience working with children or vulnerable groups, and an interest in mental health and neurodevelopmental needs. The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, is essential.

Training and Qualifications Essential
An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology Entitlement to graduate membership of the BritishPsychological Society.
Desirable
Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology and/or research
Experience Essential
Experience of work with people with mental health problems
Desirable
Paid work in a setting providing direct care Experience of working with children and young people with mental health difficulties. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team. Experience of working with neurodivergent children and young people
Knowledge and Skills Essential
High level interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to work and effectively communicate complex or sensitive information in highly emotive and emotionally charged settings involving conflict and significant personal distress. An awareness and understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and disabilities and of contemporary issues in the field.

Experience of collecting research data, including questionnaire design and interviewing.
