Overview The CAT Controller Technical Support & Electronics Specialist provides end-to-end technical support for Hayward CAT Controllers and related commercial aquatics products. This hybrid role combines customer-facing product support and training with hands-on diagnosis, repair, and testing of electronic control equipment returned for warranty and non-warranty service. The successful candidate will apply knowledge of electronics, automated pool water chemistry controls, pH, ORP, and sanitization to resolve technical issues, deliver effective training, maintain accurate service documentation, and support continuous product and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for CAT Controllers and other Hayward Commercial Aquatics products by phone, email, in person, and through field support as needed.

• Receive, log, and track CAT Controllers returned for warranty and non-warranty service, maintaining accurate documentation and inventory control.

• Diagnose electronic, hardware, and application issues using diagnostic tools, electrical schematics, datasheets, service manuals, and technical documentation.

• Perform repairs on electronic assemblies, components, and printed circuit boards, including soldering and surface-mount component work.

• Test repaired units to verify full functionality and compliance with product specifications and quality standards.

• Troubleshoot commercial pool water chemistry and controller application issues involving pH, ORP, sanitization, and other water balance parameters.

• Document technical findings, repairs, test results, customer interactions, and recommended resolutions in applicable service records.

• Coordinate with Customer Service to support invoicing and related documentation for non-warranty repairs.

• Conduct product and technical training for customers, partners, and internal employees in person and online.

• Manage and maintain the Commercial Training Hub in Atlanta, ensuring the facility, equipment, and materials are ready for demonstrations, classes, and hands-on training.

• Develop and update training materials, presentations, service resources, and technical documentation.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Sales, Service, and Customer Service teams to resolve complex issues and share product feedback.

• Participate in customer site visits, conferences, trade shows, and off-site training as required.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including compliance with electrostatic discharge protocols and applicable safety requirements.

• Stay current on product developments, industry trends, and advancements in pool chemistry control technology, and recommend improvements that enhance repair quality, service efficiency, training effectiveness, and the customer experience.

Qualifications

• Technical training in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

• Experience diagnosing, repairing, and testing electronic equipment, preferably industrial controllers or similar control systems.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, datasheets, service manuals, and technical documentation.

• Proficiency with electronic testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and function generators.

• Strong soldering skills, including experience handling surface-mount components and printed circuit boards.

• Working knowledge of swimming pool water chemistry, including pH, ORP, sanitization, and key water balance parameters.

• CPO certification preferred, or the ability to obtain certification.

• Experience with CAT Controllers or similar automated pool water chemistry control systems is highly desirable.

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.

• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and technical documentation skills.

• Customer-focused approach with the ability to build rapport and explain technical information to audiences with varying levels of expertise.

• Ability to work independently, collaborate across functions, and manage multiple service, training, and support priorities.

• Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage training schedules, service records, equipment, and resources.

• Ability to travel occasionally for customer support, training, conferences, and trade shows.

Working Relationships This role works closely with customers, commercial partners, internal sales and service teams, Customer Service, Engineering, and Quality Assurance to provide coordinated technical support, repair service, training, and product feedback.
