Join our dedicated team as a Children's HDU Nurse and make a real difference. Main duties of the job
Deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care to children requiring high dependency support.
Monitor, assess, and manage the care of acutely unwell children, including those with complex medical needs.
Use specialist equipment and clinical skills to provide continuous observation and intervention.
Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualised care plans.
Act as a key point of contact for children and their families, offering support, information, and reassurance.
Recognise and respond promptly to changes in a child's condition, escalating concerns appropriately.
Safely administer medications and treatments in accordance with Trust policies and national guidelines.
Contribute to clinical documentation, audits, and service improvement initiatives.
Maintain high standards of infection prevention, patient safety, and safeguarding.
Support junior staff, students, and new team members through supervision, mentorship, and role modelling.

Job description Job responsibilities
Registered Children's Nurse (RNC) with current NMC registration.
Post-registration experience in an acute paediatric setting, ideally with experience in high dependency or critical care.
Strong knowledge of paediatric assessment skills, early recognition of deterioration, and management of acutely unwell children.
Competence in clinical skills such as IV administration, airway management, and use of monitoring equipment (e.g. oxygen therapy, NG tubes, ECG monitoring).
Current certification in Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) is essential; EPALS (European Paediatric Advanced Life Support) is essential.
Level 2 critical care qualification is essential
Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations, with excellent clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
A compassionate and child-centred approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support children and families.
Commitment to ongoing professional development, including completion or willingness to work towards relevant HDU/paediatric critical care training.
Effective team working skills with a flexible, proactive, and positive attitude.
Understanding of safeguarding, infection prevention, and governance standards in paediatric care.
