The Bristol Eye Hospital (BEH) at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust (UHBW) is looking to grow its talented team of clinicians to drive an ambitious future vision of care across Bristol and Weston. Applications are warmly welcomed for this a one-year, fixed term, full time Primary Care Clinical Fellow post, ideally commencing on early August 2026. The post itself is designed to provide emergency ophthalmology services for patients attending an open-door Emergency Department. This post may give the opportunity to rotate through subspecialties and potentially help with Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) subject to meeting competencies.
The BEH is a highly regarded Regional Centre for Ophthalmology which sits within the Division of Surgery at UHBW (recently rated Outstanding by the CQC). It provides a tertiary referral service for glaucoma, as well as providing support for the glaucoma care of patients in the closely linked supra-regional corneal, vitreoretinal, uveitis and paediatric services. The service is supported by a highly developed and pioneering optometry shared-care service, as well as a well-integrated electronic patient record with long-standing historical data.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in the running of the service. They will also be expected to participate in the workload of the hospital and be capable of working to a flexible timetable.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience Essential
Good knowledge of general ophthalmology, with basic specialist training (SpR level) completed for all sub specialities
Desirable
Able to perform YAG Lasers Experience of treating a range of ophthalmology disorders Ability to perform supervised routine cataract surgery
Skills and Abilities Essential
Good communication skills, including patients, nursing/ medical/administrative staff Ability to work in a team Ability and willingness to participate in teaching and training of junior doctors, nurses, medical students, optometrists and other allied health professionals
Qualifications and Training Essential
Applicants should already have CCST (or equivalent) or be entering into their final year of Specialist training, Overseas applicants would normally be at the end of their local training scheme Full registration with the United Kingdom General Medical Council
