Bellarmine College Preparatory in San José, California invites applications for a full-time Ceramics teaching position beginning August 2023. Highest priority is given to candidates with a degree in visual arts, experience maintaining and supervising an active ceramics studio, and teaching experience at the high school level. Responsibilities

Teach multiple sections of Ceramics. Develop and deliver curriculum that includes both wheel throwing and hand buildingCollaborate with colleagues on aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessmentsHold regular office hours and meet with students who need assistanceCommunicate regularly with parents, counselors, and administrators to ensure the success of each studentDemonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growthFulfill periodic substitution and prefecting responsibilitiesAbide by all school policies and regulationsComplete other duties and/or projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications/Skills

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Fine ArtsDemonstrate an understanding of the elements and principles of designIntegrate and use technology for instruction and assessmentDesign authentic projects and analyze student work to adjust instructionAbility to work effectively with staff and students at all levels, displaying a positive attitude, demonstrating cultural proficiency, and exhibiting motivation and drive; this includes the ability to provide clear expectations to students while building positive relationshipsExcellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, and successfully interact with external and internal constituents; this includes the ability to resolve conflictsSelf-directed with proven ability to assume responsibility, work independently, creatively solve problems, and move work/projects to completion with minimal supervisionAbility to prioritize and complete tasks/assignments/projects within established time frames and with strong attention to detail, including the ability to stay focused and manage multiple projects/activities simultaneouslyProficiency with Microsoft Office Applications and the ability to operate all other applicable softwarePreferred Qualifications/Skills

Master’s Degree in Fine ArtsSingle Subject Credential in Art and/or Master’s Degree in TeachingFamiliarity with Jesuit secondary education

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 20 pounds, using proper lifting techniquesAbility to sit, stand, and/or move around the classroom as neededAbility to travel around our campus safely and comfortablyAbility to use a keyboard (or an alternative input device) and other office equipmentAbility to read information in printed material and on a computer screen (often for extended periods of time) and/or on a mobile device/laptop

School Requirements

Satisfactory clearance of a TB test.Satisfactory clearance of a background check, pursuant to a fingerprint scan.
