Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified clinical psychologist to develop and/or build upon existing neuropsychological and neurobehavioural skills and knowledge. St Peters Hospital is a 51-bedded neuropsychiatric hospital based in Langstone, Newport. It caters for people with organic conditions, including dementia, Huntingtons disease, alcohol-related brain damage, and acquired brain injury. The people we support and treat often present with behavioural and psychological symptoms, including behaviours that challenge. We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, and values-driven person to join our psychology team.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will deliver psychological input across the hospital.The postholder will work alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team including Senior Nurses, Consultant Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and Physiotherapists. The department currently consists of 3.0 WTE Assistant Psychologists, 1WTE Clinical Psychologist and is overseen by a 0.8WTE Consultant Clinical Psychologist. You will have a key role in informing and providing effective, evidence-based care pathways within the service.

Although the predominant focus of work is neuropsychology and dementia, there are opportunities for working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems, forensic histories and learning disabilities. Staff team work and risk assessment / management are components of the role. Therefore, we welcome applications from interested candidates who may have experience in specialties outside of neuropsychology, and would consider creating a job plan with a focus upon one or more of these particular areas.

To provide a specialised psychological assessment and therapy to the clients of the Iris Care Group Group
To work autonomously in accordance with The British Psychological Society Code of Conduct, Ethical Principles & Guidelines 2004 and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures
To contribute to the development of local team policies and procedures in order to facilitate improvements in service quality
To train other professionals and contribute to the training of trainee clinical psychologists
To utilise specialised research skills for audit, policy and service development, and research.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
HCPC registration as a clinical psychologist Postgraduate doctoral level training in clinical or forensic psychology or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
