About this role

We are seeking an experienced Longwall Mechanical Production Fitter to join our underground production team at Moranbah North Mine.

This is a hands on role in maintaining and supporting critical longwall equipment to keep the operation running safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will work alongside production, electrical, and maintenance personnel to identify mechanical issues, complete planned maintenance, and respond to equipment breakdowns.

About the role

Reporting to the Longwall Mechanical Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

Performing planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on longwall equipmentInspecting, maintaining and repairing shearers, AFCs, BSLs and powered roof supportsMaintaining and fault-finding hydraulic and mechanical systemsDiagnosing equipment faults and completing practical repairs to minimise production delaysSupporting longwall production and equipment availabilityCompleting equipment inspections and identifying emerging defectsAssisting with component changeouts, installations and longwall moves when requiredFollowing isolation, stored-energy and underground risk-control requirementsCompleting work orders and maintenance records accuratelyWorking closely with operators, electricians and other tradesMaintaining high standards of housekeeping and equipment careContributing to a positive, respectful and safety focused crewThe longwall is the mine’s primary production area, with equipment availability, operating capability and effective management of delays directly affecting coal production

About you

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

Australian recognised Mechanical Trade QualificationExperience working in an underground coal minePrevious longwall mechanical maintenance experienceExperience with shearers, AFCs, BSLs, roof supports and hydraulic systemsStrong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skillsExperience completing planned and breakdown maintenanceA sound understanding of isolation and stored-energy controlsStrong safety awareness and hazard-identification skillsThe ability to work effectively within a production-focused teamClear communication and a practical approach to problem-solvingCurrent underground competencies and qualifications required for the positionA current Australian driver’s licenceLongwall equipment includes the shearer, AFC and powered roof supports, with mechanical work involving commissioning, installation, maintenance and equipment inspections.
